GR sensor
It has always been my understanding that it is basically the same sensor as the K5iis, but I can't find any links that prove it definitively.

GR sensor
It's generally believed to be the same sensor, which would make sense with the same company producing both cameras.

GR sensor
I would guess the low noise APSC Sony sensors used vary slightly from batch to batch as do the often used Fujitsu electronic components. I've read claims Sony supply slightly different specs to different customers too. Then of course the Ricoh/Pentax designers tweak settings especially for jpeg ...

GR sensor
Thanks for the responses, Lenny, Percy and Bill. I've been just hugely impressed with the GR sensor. In DSLR land I jumped straight from the K5 to the K3... missing out the K5iis. I'm now thinking I missed something a bit special...

Test results 645Z... DXO
Medium format isnt something I profess to understand at all. But seems the Pentax 645Z has finally attained marvelous test results from DXO Mark. https://www.dxomark.com/pentax-645z-sensor-review/ Seems to be a little controversy over why it has taken two years to produce. But I couldn't possi...

GR III Focus speed
I have the K-01 and Ricoh GR III. I like them both but in use for me they have very little in common. Apparently it is very popular with street photographers. The K-01 and GR III share aps-c sensor form and shake reduction, however the GR has a 24 mp sensor, touch screen, is tiny, easily operated...

Ricoh GRII and GRIII - a few comments
Having owned the GRII for a few years I was interested to see how the GRIII would improve on the previous model and whether it would be weaker in any aspects. I decided not to jump in right at the start but wait a few months and read some reviews and comments (once the initial over-enthusiastic rev...

Ricoh GRII and GRIII - a few comments
Thanks Nigel and Ronnie Ronnie - I've always has a bit of a problem with the angle of view that a 28mm (or equivalent) presents, it's never suited my sort of photography so personally I don't find it ideal as a landscape camera (35mm or 20mm are preferable for me) but that won't stop me trying ;...

A couple of shots from my GR
Thanks for the comments. Previously. The real benefit of the GR is it's a shirt pocketable camera with a fantastic lens and a large sensor. I might pair it with my MX-1 for tele shots, both of these will easily fit inside the shoulder bag I usually use (which is usually stuffed full of other holiday...

Ricoh GRIII with the GW-4 (21mm equivalent) lens attachment
Thank you for the review. The rendering of this camera is very nice. I have the original APS-C GR and still use it, as well as the original small sensor GRIII and IV. Ricoh know what they are doing with these cameras.

Adaptors
Using any of the adapters with the Q is fiddly and there's no auto focus available with them either. The standard lens for the Q is 8.5mm. Any K mount lenses around that focal length are pretty bulky and try and go wider! TBH it's best to stick with Q lenses on the Q, they're light and designed f...

Adaptors
Vic, from your interest in the GR and the Q, it appears that your aim is to lose a lot of weight. Perhaps consider a body such as a Sony A6000. It has nearly half the weight of the K-3, adapters for Pentax K to Sony E are easy to find, you retain the image advantages of a 24 MP APS-C sensor like t...

Ricoh GRIII set-up for quick use
Yes, I've been with Pentax for over 30 years (since film) and like them. From what I've seen on the GR it is the simplicity of still shooting that attracts, I'd still use it in RAW and process in LR. Do you ever use the crop options or always at 28mm and then crop in processing? No - I've not used t...

GRIII at Harlow Carr
I think you've demonstrated the capabilities you described perfectly - a compact lightweight camera that creates a quality record of the subjects you choose. The added ingredient is the aperture you choose for the intended result (which is the skill in using AV mode) and it's clear you've got that s...

Ricoh Announces Major restructure of Imaging Business...
This is just a change from build-to-plan to build-to-order. Many industries have gone down this route already. It would require re-engineering of the body to allow some flexibility but options could include physical things like sensor size and flip-screen. Other things are a function of firmware l...

Ricoh Announces Major restructure of Imaging Business...
Interesting. Is it the logical follow up to the 'you can order any colour you like' Q's and the Ricoh thing (can't remember the name) where you bought half a body then attached your choice of lens/sensor combination? It certainly ties in with the rumour that there will be 6 different varie...

Ricoh Announces Major restructure of Imaging Business...
I am surprised no-one has mentioned the top article on the linked page.... "Canon is shutting down a major camera factory in China, returning to domestic production citing “facing unprecedented difficulties” Things continue to get worse for all the high end camera manufacturers, whether their pro...

Ricoh repair guides (GR)
The original plan was to have the GRIII as my sole camera, so I sold up all my gear and bought a new Street Edition. I loved it initially, but even though I'd bought the neat looking Haoge filter adapter with a UV to protect the lens mechanism, the worry of the lens jamming and camera losing value w...

What would you wish for?
Being an avid Pentax camera and lens user I thought I would suggest a topic for discussion that might get back to the Pentax marketing department. Personally I do not see me investing in a new film camera, I already have two older functioning excellent film cameras. Nor would I want an AFC camer...
