GRIII at Harlow Carr

With the release of the GRIIIx and some discussion here I thought a few photos from our walk around Harlow Carr this morning would add to the conversation. I was with my wife and just wandering, admiring the late summer borders and the ongoing developments. The Ricoh is just used as a record of our visit so set in AV mode, auto ISO, multi segment AE, vivid jpeg and the option of touch screen focal point. These images are SOOC to illustrate how a "point and shoot" can work. Must admit the 28mm lens works for me and don't see how the 40mm will improve my type of general photography. I do have the KP and several Limited lenses when I am on my own and taking my time. Please don't critique the photos for their photographic merit, just examples of how easy the Ricoh makes taking a decent photograph is.

I think you've demonstrated the capabilities you described perfectly - a compact lightweight camera that creates a quality record of the subjects you choose. The added ingredient is the aperture you choose for the intended result (which is the skill in using AV mode) and it's clear you've got that skill!

Lovely set, absolutely nothing to criticise - the only differences I can see are that with a "full load" you could take advantage of the wider aperture of DA and DFA lenses, but the benefits would be marginal.

IMO the GRIII is almost perfect for many situations, only one thing that I believe they should introduce - weather and dustproofing for the sensor (from experience with the otherwise brilliant GRII).

Thanks for sharing and showing why the GRIII is such a worthy camera

Can't argue with my learned colleagues- great demonstration of what can be achieved.
Obviously the skill of the photographer is the major contributor.

What you need are lenses, more lenses, bigger lenses, better lenses, faster lenses, and when you have these, your pictures will be perfect!

Thanks for comments.

Just looked through my photos and realised I have only used my KP for two trips this year. Must be getting lazy.

Now the days are getting shorter it is time to plan a proper photo trip or two with lots of lenses.

Yes, the Ricoh is an ideal camera for keeping a record as you say. It becomes a photographic diary.

I thoroughly enjoyed your GR111 photographs, and lovely sunny weather to boot!
