Pentax K-01
The downside to adopting the K Mount is that it defines the distance between the back of the lens and the sensor, known as the flange back distance. This is 45mm for K Mount cameras, which is significantly deeper than in rival CSC systems such as Micro Four Thirds (20mm) and Sony NEX (18mm). As such...

Pentax K-01
I dont have a problem with the "funny" looks myself but I do think it may mean they sell less K-01s (been done to death I know). For me Mr Newsome, as a designer has not played to Pentax strengths- we often say that Pentax is always thinking of photographers when they design their gear- there isnt m...

Pentax K-01
I thought Pentax designers were doing just fine before. Buttons in the right places, easy to use menus, compact bodies compared with the opposition, ergonomic shutter release positions, quality optical viewfinders, pleasant to the touch materials etc. I like my plain black KR BUT am very interested...

Pentax K-01
Yes good comparison Don- I imagine you maybe picked up on the prime vs Zoom comparison, however it seems that current technology is such that you cant have a genuinely compact solution with an APSc sensor.

Pentax K-01
I wonder what I would do given £1000 to spend- OMD or K-01 and pocket some change. I have a cheap PEN (EP1)already and it's really good but it is limited- I wouldnt use it in low light high ISO situation- but I can stick it in the pocket of a stretchy hoody with pancake attached when I take the dog ...

Pentax K-01
Clip on VF is a major flaw imo. I bought one for my LX5 purely because I couldn't see a damn thing in bright sunshine using the rear screen (just like Huff with the K-01). Glad he likes the IQ though .. guessing that sensor will be in the K-5 or K-r replacement

Pentax K-01
I too have looked for a lighter backpacking option and eventually came back to the K5 as my lighter option as it's the smallest thing that does everything I want! Combined with Ltd's it would be ideal (Like the last time!) but that would mean buying that dammed 21mm again and I may as well just supe...

Pentax K-01 and Open Day!
That review says the sensor has been improved upon the k-5 sensor

Pentax K-01 and Open Day!
That up to 25 mins may just be a card size limitation. Could be coincidence but 25mins at full HD will pretty much fill a 16G card. Now that affordable 32GB cards are out there it may be worth a test for whoever gets the review models..... I hope so... I think 25 mins may also be a heat limitation...

Images with a K-01
would be interesting to know, how much PP they did on the photos. If none at all, then I think, these are really vibrant images You can easily get vibrant images out of any camera. The trick is usually the opposite: to get good untouched baseline images that stand up to processing later. But unless ...

Q at 'Focus'
Is the adapter available yet? It certainly looks like a very useful idea. John. I do worry about the crop factor - not sure how small the sensor on the Q is, compared to the K5's.

Q at 'Focus'
The concern for me was that the Q's much smaller, more pixel-dense sensor would exceed the resolution of K mount lenses. However I've seen images from the DA*300mm and the Q cropped to 100%, which looked OK, and also suggests that the sensors in cameras like the K5 aren't yet out-resolving our be...

K-01 user feedback
Sure, we know that we can expect a lot from the sensor, however, given that this camera represents a radical departure for Pentax (in all sorts of ways) I am surprised that there has been no new user discussion on PUF as yet.

how many Q owners?
I am very tempted. It may not be a substitute for a DSLR, but it's now a viable alternative to a compact camera for people (like me) who want a little bit more functionality and quality in a similarly small package. I was erring towards the WG2 when it was announced (similar price, similar sensor...

how many Q owners?
The Q clearly is a great camera, but is it any more useful than the hundreds of basic compact cameras available many of which are also pretty good too, albeit (for me) also lacking a viewfinder? Then is it as good as the compacts that are adorned with a viewfinder, whether top of the range ones cost...

how many Q owners?
I didn't understand how the 1650mm came into it as any lens in front of any sensor cant change focal length hence I assumed you meant FOV. Best regards

I didn't understand how the 1650mm came into it as any lens in front of any sensor cant change focal length hence I assumed you meant FOV. Best regards Yes, that is what I meant. You could crop your way there on a DSLR but you'd have a whole lot less than 12 Megapixels left. Don't make me ...

The Best and the Coolest....
I think that most of the photographs taken in the developed world now are composed by viewing on a screen rather than a viewfinder, on mobile phones and compact digital cameras... major manufacturers have dropped viewfinders from their compacts, and there is a definite movement in favour of mirrorl...

The Best and the Coolest....
I love a Forum! I think you're "struggling" John X, but I'll let it go... It's more that "photography" as a whole is being challenged, what is it... how is it done.... Those of us who came it through two dimensional "prints" or projectible "slides" are outdated now that most photography (in t...
