Of course. Ive seen a couiple of good shots taken from that hide of them. Mind you I tend to be out in the park rather than in the hides

Well mine arrived and I duly painted the inside matt black as recommended elsewhere. The sun has not been out once since it arrived but that of course is the norm when a new lens test is required. So - this is with the DA*300mm and Q, on a tripod with remote, about f5.6 and ISO 400, from about 30 feet. Virtually no cropping but usual adjustments I would do to any image, especially one taken in the gloom.
Not bad in my opinion.

Quite a few out of focus but wagtails don't stay still and only about 1/100th sec possible so to be expected.

That's very hopeful, and might well be better than a compact on a spotting scope.

One thing that occurs to me is that some of these lenses are still delivering sharp results on a tiny, densely pixelled sensor. If the sensor was scaled up at the same pixel density, the resolution would presumably be pretty vast? Is the MP race really over?

Then again some of the lenses are showing that they aren't up to such severe cropping.

It does depend very much on the lens in question. Better lenses may not be what we expect as we are well outside what any of them were designed for.

Fun though finding out.

I know we've asked this before but can someone remind me if you put in the actual focal length in for the SR when requested or the 35mm equivalent. I noticed it caters for some ridiculously high values which made me wonder if it was the latter.

Why did you paint the inside of the adapter matt black?

I read on the other forum that this model and probably others have a satin interior finish that caused some internal reflections. He said his results improved after doing this although I couldn't verify this. As it was so easy to do with a little tin of Wilkinsons water based matt black paint i went ahead.

The adapter I received had a ribbed black interior, which is what I'd expect.

Scaled up to APS-C would give 155Mp by my reckoning. No wonder some lenses struggle.

We bought the one from Amazon at £40.88, from Primarcy.

A glimpse of brightness today allowed me to get down to 1/400th sec and Iso 250 with the DA*300mm on F4. This was taken from inside my lounge with the patio door open. Naturally the Blackbird was undisturbed as I paced it later to be 20 metres away. This was cropped to only about 35% and got sharpened in down scaling although it was very sharp to start off with.
I am finding this quite astounding really - 1710mm at F4, quite a pricey lens I would think

Believe me it looks even more impressive unscaled at full screen!
