Some Trees

Hi all... have found myself in and around a fair few woodland type places over the last few months, primarily taking ICM shots, or sniffing out waterfalls etc. Have found myself, much to my surprise, really enjoying trees (autumn helps). Have been particularly struck by the colours vs structures, ...

Five in a row- StephenHampshire

No 4 - again a slightly unusual shot for me, although my daughter is a keen rider, and is now studying Equine Science at Uni, I don't do a lot of equine shots. We do both attend the British Festival of Eventing t Gatcombe in Gloucestershire, and this year I took my new Tamron 70-200 F2.8. This is A...

Five in a row- StephenHampshire

Great expression of grim determination. A well captured moment - and as you say testament to the K5 sensor and the tammie!

Five in a row - Russ

For me the original composition is by far the best, it's a very unusual photo and all the better for it. However, I do have one problem and that is the very thing that everyone else has mentioned, i.e. the lighting. This shot has a savage dynamic range, from very bright to very dark and the sensor...

Why indeed Adrian .... Why would a K3 owner choose an older model with a lower res sensor to shoot photos like these? Could it be psychological ...? Has Alan been spooked out about his K3, because of all these comparisons and questions about noise, higher ISO, overly warm yellows, the constant bad...

Post your favourite photo taken this year :)

I think this is my favourite of the year 2014 taken on the Isle of Skye. It is a classic landscape photographers location. This is taken looking back towards the car park (on the roadside to the right). The Quiraing, a collection of rock formations breaking off from the Trotternish ridge, are to the...

Christmas Eve Northern Lights

I have been told recently that it is only the camera that renders the lights as green. Is this true? By the way I always look forward to your Northern Lights photos this time of year. Dave Gwyn has already done a good job at answering your question, but I have to add some things. Firstly, the ...

First Outing with the DA300

Thanks for your comments Rob - yes they are all heavily cropped (except the first otter shot). Mike and Stuart - the colours look a little off on some to me as well but I have not made any colour adjustments to any of these shots. Not sure it is all of the first 5 though: 1. May be a proce...

Inclement weather

Inclement? Looks bl**dy marvelous to me - nicely done sir! Is that rain or sensor dust on the last shot? Carl

Inclement weather

Is that rain or sensor dust on the last shot? Carl Rain, and since the Sigma 10-20 is not impervious to the stuff it was time to call a retreat. One gent died on that night, hit by lightning whilst out with his dog. They found him the next morning with the dog still sat at his side. Quite sad really...

K5iis with o-GPS v. 645 with nothing

Agreed - it does seem strange. I am not in the realm of even entertaining a Zed, but it is good that the K5 is more than able to hold its own. If I understand correctly many are of the opinion that the sensor even though ageing now was a high-point of APSC progress. For me its good to see that the ...

K5iis with o-GPS v. 645 with nothing

It doesn't actually surprise me. I know how good the K5 is at low iso long exposures. I noted a comment from Mark Littlejohn a former user who rates the K5 better in certain ways than the Nikon D800 and Df for these kind of exposures. Without the astrotracer then the only way of getting a top q...

K5iis with o-GPS v. 645 with nothing

Mark, its a bigger picture. The K5IIs with the 0-GPS 1 is a compromise. It's a side benefit of the gps and sensor shift, no put down in any form. Serious star tracking will need the likes of an AstroTrac TT320X-AG which is why I bought one. I'm also using mine as street cam (testament that...

Ricoh's GR - I love it

Thank you all for the kind comments. I can honestly say the GR has rekindled my photography since purchasing it. I had the Q in the past but wasn't 100% happy with the results. When they brought out the GR with the same sensor as my K5, I knew I'd found the compact I'd been looking for. Th...

not true macro ?

It would be easier straight on. You know the size of the sensor, you can read off the size of the ruler, so you can work out the magnification ratio.

BTCC 2015 Donington Park (image heavy)

Made my annual trip to watch the British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park. Saturday (free practice and qualifying) was sunny but still a cold wind, whereas Sunday was dull and overcast for most of the day. Some good racing throughout the day, the MSA Formula Championship and Clio Cup ...

RHS Gardens Rosemoor

Lovely detail and colours. That looks like a fine sensor. I wonder how it compares to the one fitted to the K3.
