First shots with my new MX-1

Wonderfully sharp and nicely exposed. I does seem like a fine litte camera. I don't know how they squeeze such quality from what is a relatively small sensor. In-camera processing has improved dramatically in recent years.

A Day Out with MX-1

Well thanks to both of you for calling by. The MX-1 is up to the task I'm just working on representing the gorgeous sights. I'm a little disappointed that the resolution didn't quite come across in the resize. There's been a lot of interest in the MX-1 since it got to around the £200 mark. It's a mo...

A Day Out with MX-1

I still don't understand how they get it to work as it does given the tiny sensor Excellent optics goes a long way ;) It is rather astonishing for a compact :D Matt

MX-1 in the Churchyard

agree with you that it is DSLR like in it's handling :) Not sure I'd go that far. The lack of a viewfinder makes handling very different to a DSLR and more demanding in bright light. But all compacts are like this. Its write times are incredibly slow: you really have to change the way you wo...

Shots for Constructive Criticism

Actually that last question is a very good one - where do we find all these bugs? CarolG on EPZ seems to find thousands of them, and she make superb images of them with a compact camera. She's worth looking up as it sets a very high benchmark for these type of images. I have looked through them. ...

First day with my first Camera ever!! :) Pentax K100D

For a complete beginner, these are really very good indeed. You've isolated the subjects nicely, and there are no issues with sharpness except possibly with the first swan. You've got a speck of dust on your sensor, very obvious in the top right corner of the pigeon shot, and there are a coupl...

First day with my first Camera ever!! :) Pentax K100D

Great first effort, Sarah. I'm so glad you're enjoying your camera. I missed my K100D so much when it was stolen last year I bought another, despite having a K5 and a K10. You must use Levels at least in Photoshop and just a little sharpening before saving. When you're a bit more confident you sh...

Bempton Cliffs 30th May 2014

Very nice set Alan. Particularly like Gannet 2 and the sparrow. I was there about a week ago and all shots were wrecked due to plagues of black flies everywhere. All my images look as if the sensor is covered in dust! I actually set off for a repeat visit yesterday morning but due to a traffic...

Fish Supper

..... Not quite. Actually a 300mm lens on a Pentax DSLR becomes 450mm so a minimum shutter speed of 1/450 sec. would be required. :) It doesn't affect SR. Crop factor is about the sensor. Focal length remains the same.

A morning in Auld Reekie

Thanks to all for taking the time to view and comment and offer your improvement suggestions, always appreciated. The moving train shots tell me I need to clean my sensor, I don't use f22 very often :-)

Another Pageant of Power set

Another nice weekend at Cholmondeley Castle, without much of the usual appalling weather. 1. Hunter "Miss Demeanour" made some nice noises 2. Inevitable "shrunk in the wash" pun 3. Old Buckers (careful...) entertained on Saturday 4. Off the line in the Napier Bentley... ...

Getting Closer

After all the good recent advice here on getting close focusing shots, I've tried out my Jessops extension tubes properly for the first time ... just a domesticated bunch of tiny flowers which I took outside into some light and set up the K7 on the tripod. The flowers are only about half to one ...

Pyrenees

These are all really nice Andrew, but for me the first of the mono conversions is an absolute stunner. Regarding images from the K-5, I have always found it to be a superb camera, except for some focus issues I had with my first one and certain (not all) lenses. However, I do prefer the output fro...

Chelsea Bridge

A few weeks ago when passing the riverside early morning I stopped here with the K7 & Pentax 75-150 f4.0 zoom and the 'A' 28mm f2.8. Always eerily calm here at this time of day, but the early bright sunshine always encourages my shutter button finger. All handheld, I must say I am still amazed at th...

Durham Cathedral

Looks like a good visit, excellent opportunity, and you've made the most of it. Best for me is clearly the outside view from the tower, which is beautifully captured with all the elements working together - quirky angle, nice balanced sky (although pushing the limits a bit over on the right side the...

Durham Cathedral

A colourful and interesting set, Alan. Fine detail from that new sensor. I love Durham Cathedral and wish I lived a bit nearer (although then I'd be further from Wells...) I think the thing is with these ultra-wide lenses is just to accept the weird distortion and just get on with it. Correcting...

A few recent shots

A pleasing set. Particularly nice colours. Does anyone else notice that the K3's sensor has a certain special "look"? It's partly due to the extra definition, but not, I think, entirely. It may just be me, however.

A few recent shots

Thanks for the comments guys. I've always been happy with the Sigma 10-20 although it can be a little soft around the edges of the frame. I think this is an issue with most wide angle lenses tho! I think the K3 images may look slightly different due to the lack of AA filter & high sensor resol...

A few recent shots

Does anyone else notice that the K3's sensor has a certain special "look"? It's partly due to the extra definition, but not, I think, entirely. It may just be me, however. I've mentioned this a few times Andrew, it seems to be something that not many people have picked up on, but I've used the K-3 e...

A few recent shots

There is something about the sensor on the K-3 that separates it from the other cameras mentioned, obviously there's the greater resolution, but you're right, it's not that that makes it different. It has a way of rendering images similarly to a CCD sensor, much more inherent warmth than the K-5 se...
