Cambois beach

I'm quite happy to be the 'odd one' here! Not least because it has got others looking and thinking about the compo. I did offer up a balanced view, listing all the positives first (colour, exposure etc) .... and I am pleased that clearly the layout works for everyone else Well done for that Alan!

I keep looking, but I cannot shift my initial discomfort with the first one. I can't understand how anyone could see this 'pipe' as a 'balancing' factor to the quite puny elements in the far right distance?? As it is , I find it placed rather bizarrely , clinging to the left edge, not knowing if its foreground or what .... (at least, it doesn't seem to take that particular compositional role). And its too far away for the viewer to get any sort of 'in ya face' impact of detail (which would be another obvious use for it).

However, a choice was made, and its a popular one! Such a powerful object in a scene can only stimulate ideas for all the alternative ways to use it, and I find this image pushes that need to the forefront.

Both are superb - have me looking for the 14-24 for Christmas - thanks Tony G.

I love both photos - but especially the first one.

I like the way the zig zag waves lead your eye towards the horizon and the rising sun and the way the clouds on both sides of the photo draw lines in the sky that have a vanishing point near the sun.

The outfall pipes lead your eye into the picture and towards the wave that can take you back to the sun. If your eyes drift towards the windmill and dark land on the right of the photo, the clouds above it again take your eyes back towards the centre of the picture.

The composition works very well for me and I could spend hours looking at it. I wish I had the vision to put such lovely images together.

I've just had a look and as per your footprints in the sand, 55.152877,-1.520571, I would probably also took the shot from there. Did you take any of the pit wheel, 55.155445,-1.52471, at the rear of the beach?

Dr O . Only 2nd time out with the K5IIs. Just getting to know it. Having said that I bracketed exposures, with a view to produce an HDR, as opposed to using my grads. With the K5IIs I ended just using a single exposure. Don't think I could have done that with the K3. Obviously I've still work to do if your first thought is about the camera and not the image

Both are very nice images, especially the colours and the exposure control for me. I'm not 100% sold on the compositions, but I would have been proud to take either one.

No, not explaining ... I was aiming to persuade other people to share my opinion

I knew you had upgraded to a K3 and I would have thought this scene suited the K3 so I was surprised to see you had used a K5iis - puzzled really. The choice between those two cameras is something I have been looking into so that is why it caught my attention.

I like the scenes but the balance of the elements isn't optimal for me. My personal taste is to avoid the Sun like that. But that is a matter of taste and the image is clearly well liked so that's more important.

Why indeed Adrian .... Why would a K3 owner choose an older model with a lower res sensor to shoot photos like these? Could it be psychological ...? Has Alan been spooked out about his K3, because of all these comparisons and questions about noise, higher ISO, overly warm yellows, the constant badgering about higher density sensors having a negative effect ... And even recently metering, with the suggestion that his K3 must be faulty! ?? And do any of these issues have any real basis, at least for a photographer shooting quality, highly controlled, landscapes?
