Trying out my K10

I just love the feel of it in the hand and the build quality its a solid well made bit of kit. I just also some how prefer the photos I get from the camera hard to put a finger on that realy may be its down to the different sensor. Ian

Trying out my K10

The K10 had a CCD sensor whereas current models use CMOS sensors. The switch to CMOS technology allowed much higher ISOs, which was necessary to compete in the market, but many prefer the base ISO performance of the CCD. I'd love another K10D. But I wouldn't give up my K-5ii either!

Another Murmuration Shot

Great colour and profile detail. Starlings or sensor rash? Best regards

K10 image 4991

So after having a couple of beers in Perth last night with Womble (Kris Lockyear), I was motivated to get out with a MF lens. I popped out this morning with the K10 and the SMC-A 70-210 f/4. Yet again the K10 shows its true qualities and colour rendition. I also feel that getting correct exposure is...

Short Walk

On the first shot, an f11 aperture setting is not open enough.....try 5.6 or larger. Then, you might try raising your ISO from 400 to 800.....your K-x has a wonderful low noise sensor (you could even go higher with ISO if low light). What both of those changes will help with is to allow a faster shu...

Landscape Critique

You've got a very dirty sensor, lots of spots and specks across the image that could do with cloning out. If you want a longer exposure maybe trying waiting until there is a bit less light. What do you consider a high f number?

San Francisco cable car

The old 'K' series fisheye doesn't look all that fishy on a APS-C sized sensor but comes into its own when using 35mm film for which it was designed, of course. Thanks for the nice comment! K.

I need an objective eye -please.

Hi Charlotte, I would personally stick to a 50mm f1.4 0r f1.7 on tubes with good diffused lighting and crop. Take a look at what Thomas Shahan is using. It's a very simple setup, however he tends to trap the subject, take it back to his studio and once he has the shot he wants, takes the subject b...

MX-1 first pics

Add a bit more contrast and that first image would be an absolute belter! I love the composition and colours, the MX-1 seems to have a very good sensor judging by these shots. Regards David

K5IIs first pictures

Very nice indeed. You do seem to have some dust on the sensor though. Look at the top centre of the first goose shot and you'll see a little grey 'dust bunny'.

Very nice indeed. You do seem to have some dust on the sensor though. Look at the top centre of the first goose shot and you'll see a little grey 'dust bunny'. I did think that, but it's not in one shot just afterwards, and one a couple of minutes before, so I think it must have either been a bug on...

Too bright, too dark, Just Right

I think the best way to produce an image of a scene that is most faithful to human light processing is by choosing a scene that is naturally much lower in contrast than any of the above images. A dull grey sky I think gives more realistitic results. . That makes sense to me, dull day landscape i...

At last - a couple of decent days on Anglesey

Thanks Simon, that's helpful. I am experimenting at the moment with a 10 stop. I try not to stop over f.11 because of a dusty sensor! (the Pentax is quite old now and dust is a regular problem despite cleaning/s.) I can vouch for the 10 second light turn around as I see it every night from the ga...

DOGS! A Photographic Project

Again, this is another straight Jpeg from the GR. The image setting again is a Hi-Contrast one with a -2 contrast applied in camera. I really do prefer the Jpegs this camera produces they're grittier and very film-like, and slightly more akin to what the small sensor GRDIV's produced in regard to t...

First batch with the Q fish eye

2&3 for me too Gary. the Q is certainly showing itself to be a very capable camera despite the small sensor.

King's Cross Station '13

Hey Deryn, if you can afford a GR you should buy one, you won't regret it. I mean, the biggest reason is that it's a bigger sensor and this camera has me just wanting to shoot JPegs because of how good they are, of course the RAW files are great too. This camera feels great in the hand, it's light ...

Just testing my Haida 10 stop ND filter

Just tried my cheapie ND1000 filter from Roxsen which on closer inspection I see to be the Camdiox brand although this wasn't specified in their ebay advert. It was £12 for 67mm size. Mechanically is in a nice ultraslim glass format with decent aluminium filter thread and decent plastic box. Y...
