Winter sun.

The first time I saw them on one of my pics, I thought I had the dreaded stain, quick trip to Jessops and left with a clean sensor:D Nigel

Strange Antennae on a mozzy

I think its a "pathfinder" mosquito. We have no chance in the dark with those sensor arrays after us! Wear your union flag P-Js tonight.

Sigma 50-500mm + Kenko Pz-AF 1.5x TC first test

Yay! A sunny morning at last! So, time to get out and test the Sigma 50-500mm HSM OS with my recently acquired Kenko Pz-AF 1.5x MC Teleconverter. The first 3 shots of the pair of Teal were taken on the tripod, OS and SR both off and shooting into some strong light so images were fairly dark. H...

First day with K5 shooting

I have taken many photos today and they are all being shot under F2 and these are the only ones that are usable after I set focus adjustment to -6. Hope pentax will keep bringing out new DSLR together with larger sensor mirrorless cameras. And my FF lenses are still waiting for a home.

Warning - HDR horrors

OMG you have just burnt my retinas.:D:D:shock: Just think what it would be like if I *really* went to town :twisted: I find that with a subtle fusion effect you can enhance the tonal range without making the picture look like a HDR shot. On a more serious note, thanks David - sound ad...

Low Light by the Canal

Hi japers, I'll not talk about the composition of the photos, as that's been done, but about Silver Efex Pro. I've been a user for a while now and I find it is brilliant. However, it is a part of a suite of programs that work best together, rather than in isolation. Or, at least, it takes tim...

Views from London this weekend

Some nice ideas here. I think you would benefit from a bit sensor cleaning though. there is some debris on most of them.:D

Battle of Nantwich 2012, 22-Jan

This is an annual re-enactment of the Battle of Nantwich put on by the local Round Table and many volunteers. Decided to only take the kit 18-55 lens, wish I'd put the zoom on now. Saw another chap with a Pentax DSLR though, that doesn't happen all that often. I think I've got a problem with some...

Macro on the cheap (and suggestions for focus rail, please)

I find that with a standard 50mm (mine is a Chinon F1.9), the depth of field is absolutely minute, whereas with my Sigma 50mm Macro, there's a bit more depth to play with. Is that just a perception or is it real? I would have thought that any 50mm lens in an identical set up to take a photograph wou...

Photographing Stars

Hi, I realised you had to click large to see the images. Well done! Fun isn't it. Away from town light pollution is best. Divide 600 by the 35mm focal length for the maximum to avoid light trails from the rotation of the earth or the other way round when they will start. The ISO level de...

Robins

Edit: Do you miss not being able to zoom out with it? I don't know when your 50th. CHEERS Vic. John, I don't miss being able to zoom and find that I have less problems with dust on the sensor also. Vic, My 52nd birthday was on st Georges day the 23rd so I'm getting on a bit now. Cheers both G...

Wren and Wood mouse taken after 9pm

Gartmore is perfectly correct. As long as the shutter is fully open for long enough to expose the whole sensor (or emulsion) to the light of the flash, reflected off the object, the exposure time is effectively the same as the duration of the flash. This is rarely more than a millisecond from a basi...

Q Image Quality? (Image heavy)

They look pretty good on here! I find the second one (the gull)interesting, as the background is out of focus. I didn't think with such a small sensor that limited DOF would be much of an option. I love the pic of the wreck, also the fishing hut. I have to say from these that the camera looks a ...

Q Image Quality? (Image heavy)

The IQ on the scenic shots looks similar to my little Canon 220HS (which also has a 12MP Exmor sensor), except I can see less compression and sharpening artefacts on the Q, and the lens is obviously a bit better towards the edges than a fixed wide angle zoom. I imagine the Q blows highlights a lot l...

Q Image Quality? (Image heavy)

Nice shots. I wonder if DrOrloff agrees, but I've found that Q images need to be sharpened a bit more than the other cameras I have. It may be a characteristic of the new backlit sensor.

Q Image Quality? (Image heavy)

Played a bit more, raw this time (yet to update the firmware though). Noise just isn't the issue I feared it would be. I shot some horse shots in difficult lighting. One of the advantages of the f1.9 lens is that ISO400 will be enough for most low light situations. The lens is sharp wide open an...

Canterbury tombs

I really like Newsome Henry. I love shooting with my MX, did you scan these yourself? I have a flatbed scanner and after spending an hour or so scanning each roll I spend at least the same tidying them up and cloning out all the dust and hairs etc do you have to do the same or do you have a ...

Image taken with my new 645D

Alasdair, can you try some candid people shots at f2.8-4 with it? One of the things I like about medium format is the unusual 3D-look the larger sensor can produce from wide angle pictures.
