First day with K5 shooting

Just want to share a few photos that I took with the K5 today. So far so good to me. Focus is faster than the K20D for sure. But it does seem to front focus on most lenses.

A good set there, like the last 3, very good for low-light work.

I looked at the low light performance of this baby and I still think for large print you need to have it under iso400. so web posting of course we can shoot even iso3200 but hey we never know when you want to print your work out.

Is that without any noise reduction at all, or after NR?

after NR of course either by in body engine or by lightroom

People never used to worry about grain with high ISO films in low light situations so maybe it isn't worth worrying unduly about noise in digital. A noisy picture is better than no picture, and at least the K-5 is giving better results in that respect than earlier DSLR's. Another year and newer cameras maybe results will be even better still. Just live with it for now!

Nice set of photos, by the way. Used to live and work around there a few years ago so brings back memories.

Typically in #7 no trains were imminent! Nothing's changed!

I can't notice front focusing in the pictures you posted?

I have taken many photos today and they are all being shot under F2 and these are the only ones that are usable after I set focus adjustment to -6.

Hope pentax will keep bringing out new DSLR together with larger sensor mirrorless cameras. And my FF lenses are still waiting for a home.

Naive question probably, but how can you tell from the image whether the camera is front focussing or back focussing? An out of focus image is simply out of focus? Yes?

Oh dear, too much Talisker.

I suppose the answer to my query is that if you have focussed on the subject but only the front foreground is in focus, then your camera is 'front focussing' and ditto if it focusses behind the subject.

Doh!

Now I discover that the K5 suffer from front or back focusing depending on the distance of the subject. e.g front focus if focus on close objects and back focus when focus on object far away say more than 8 meters. I can not use the fine focus adjustment function to sort this out.

A very fine set of pictures that I would have been delighted to have taken. I can't see any focus issues on these.
