Abstract Blauw
Stefan, you're absolutely right, the measurements are critical. And no, usually the in situ sensors are not as good as lab analysis (with the exception of temperature and conductivity (that you need to determine salinity) perhaps). The advantages of in situ sensors are that you get a better temp...

Lloyd's Perspective
Thanks guys. Your right there Gareth, but i'll need to check for sure what that thing is before I 'clone' it out. It probably is for cleaning, but may have been included in the design as well, because it's probably always there. It might look odd removed. Architects often have exposed cables insi...

Macro with pentax 100mm
Really like these, not sure how I missed this thread. The last 2 are excellent with the black background. Thanks Mike I am glad I get thumbs up from all of you who have seen these smoke works. I am extremely keen on exploring this area as I can lock myself in the shed and rather than waiting for ...

How to get it ?
Interesting John, I hardly do use the eraser in photos or anything other really selective, except to remove sensor dust and such. But it surely was effective what you did and a simple solution. Aiki, my spelling wasn't 100% correct. Just installed gimp again so that I can explain what ...

Magnolia Blossoms
Robin, It's generally better to post one picture at a time if you want comments. In my experience, the best flower pictures tend to throw the background out of focus - usually through the use of a wide aperture. Your middle picture (I didn't check the others) was taken at f9.5. My choice wou...

Moon shots with DA*300 plus Tamron 1.4x TC
The DA*300 lens sits on the tripod rather than the body of the camera itself, so that by itself might add to that tremour. I just thought that once I leave the camera alone and release the shutter with the remote there might be nothing in the camera moving enough to cause this tremour, but it seems...

Moon shots with DA*300 plus Tamron 1.4x TC
There are three things that move during a shot. 1. The mirror flips up. 2. The shutter passes across the sensor plane 3. The mirror flips down. And if you use your finger to press the button, that's a fourth - you can't avoid moving the camera when you physically press the button, so remote ...

Series of sillhouettes from Richmond Park
Well, it is evident that your sensor needs a good cleaning .

Series of sillhouettes from Richmond Park
I like the pictures very much, however, I have to agree with Terry that your sensor needs a clean. The spots were the first things to jump out at me which rather spoils the impact of what are otherwise excellent photos.

Series of sillhouettes from Richmond Park
It seems like everyone has their own cleaning methods (search the forum and you'll find countless threads on the subject). Personally, I've never actually done a "wet clean" on my sensor using swabs, etc; I just give the sensor a good blowing over with a Rocket Blower about once a week and I've neve...

Series of sillhouettes from Richmond Park
Personally, I've never actually done a "wet clean" on my sensor using swabs, etc; I just give the sensor a good blowing over with a Rocket Blower about once a week and I've never had a significant dust problem. Only problem with blowing the sensor with a blower is that you may just blow it ar...

Series of sillhouettes from Richmond Park

smoke shapes
Mike, This image looks ok to me. Its too small anyway to detect what might be going wrong. Can you upload a bigger version? From what I notice the background does look black to me, unless I am missing something. I even shoot my smoke with full flourescent lights on in my shed, all 4 of them and a...

Standard lens pictures.
It was changed to increase the resolution to match the 14.6MP sensor of the K20D.

I like the first two. It's a pity about those strange marks (sensor grud, cloning, spotting......?)visible in the skies. Martin.

Marks on the sensor from using my Pentax O-ICK1 sensor cleaner. Grrrrr. I hope they will come off with a swab. I forgot to clone them out. Easy job in these shots, thanks for reminding me!

Chris with New 50mm f1.4 FA..Does it look OK?
You've probably got a very little hair on the sensor. If you set the sensor to shake when the camera is turned on chances are it will be gone now.If its a bit more stubborn you'll have to get out the rocket blower:)

Image noise on K20
Just to explain the ETTR (Expose To The Right) thing a bit more - The sensor is linear, but the light levels are logarithmic. This fact affects the noise levels in the shadows. So, the top 1Ev of the exposure occupies a full half of the digital levels (ie 2048 levels of a 12-bit RAW). The next 1...

Some type of wasp ?
Mike wonderfull shot, those eye-level macro's are always nice. Btw you need to clean your sensor  Suppose I could have taken video though and posted a 4gig file  Yes we want of course a video section when the K-7 is here, it's Pentax users forum right and not a photo-forum

Some type of wasp ?
Mike wonderfull shot, those eye-level macro's are always nice. Btw you need to clean your sensor  Thanks Stefan. I ordered a swab and liquid cleaner Sunday, hoping it will be here soon to sort my sensor out. I have a nasty mark on there that I have to clone out every time but I have a na...
