Pentax Lenses for IR Photography
A series lenses would be the most convenient as they will meter and stop down correctly without any hassle. On most converted DSLR's the metering is not measuring IR at all. Metering usually being done by a separate sensor by the prism. I've never heard of a conversion adjusting the metering wavele...

CSC's
I use a Pentax K3 with 12 -24 for wide angle, 18 - 135 for general use and 300 star with tele adapter for wildlife. A lot to carry around. My family bought me a little Canon 1" sensor (decent quality and F1.8 at wide angle) for portable use last Christmas. I find that great at night and for people/ ...

The Great JPEG Shootout (The Camera Store)
I don't want to spoil the results for anyone, but if you haven't got 20 minutes to spare, they are: Overall, collated scores for the set of photos. #1 - Nikon #2 - Canon #3 - Panasonic #4 - Fuji #5 - Olympus #6 - Sony #7/#8 Tie - iPhone 7/ Pentax Obviously not a great result for Pe...

When the lens model doesn't show up in the Exif
You could take a photo with a 100mm lens and somebody else could take the exact same image with 50mm lens. Fact. Well you're sort of right, they could, but you'd have to crop the 50mm photo to get them to match exactly. That's presuming both cameras had the same size sensor (or film format.) A 50mm...

When the lens model doesn't show up in the Exif
You could take a photo with a 100mm lens and somebody else could take the exact same image with 50mm lens. Fact. That actually isn't possible though. Apart from the different fields of view, or magnification if you like, if the images of the main subject were matched exactly the background would be ...

Wildlife photographer of the year peoples choice
The blue trail is the light that was captured by the sensor as the bird flew down, then the flash caused a much larger amount of light to form the image of the bird at the bottom of its dive. This is how flash 'freezes' motion.

Pentax K-3 Sensor cleaning advice needed
I took this on wednesday, and there is a mark just above the birds beak. I had changed lens from the 18-135 to the 55-300, and its on every image since, no matter what lens, so must be on the sensor. Ive never cleaned a sensor before, so any advice would be really appreciated. Do i need a special ...

While you are getting your head around sensor cleaning, that mark would be very easy to erase with editing software, if you have any. Regards, Mike

Pentax K-3 Sensor cleaning advice needed
It's really no different then cleaning anything else. There is a bit of a paranoia surrounding it in my opinion. Don't rub/scrub/apply too much pressure and use random liquids and you and the sensor will be just fine. That said, first thing to try is to clean the mirror/, not the sensor. I f...

Errr...the mirror is not going to affect his image. Get yourself a Giotto rocket blower. Blow out the mirror box first. Then expose the sensor and use the blower on that. i picked up a big dust bunny yesterday. Gone with a few puffs of the blower.

I would be careful with a rocket blower or you may get dust behind the focusing screen.

I would be careful with a rocket blower or you may get dust behind the focusing screen. Yes that is good advice. Be gentle with the blower and test your efforts by taking a picture of a blue sky at smallest aperture possible eg f22 focussed at infinity. You should be able to see the dust spec (or no...

Also, don't get too bothered about a few dust bunnies mostly easily dealt with in software afterwards

Best to use the Pentax sensor cleaning kit. Like you I was quite apprehensive but follow the instructions and it will be fine. Who wants to do spot removal on every exposure when this will sort it?

Pentax K-3 Sensor cleaning advice needed
Having learned the hard way about lens changing hygene (dust spots everywhere) I am now paranoid about blowing everything with a rocket blower. Unscrew lens cap, blow it and the lens, place lens cap loosely over it. Blow inside the current lens' rear cap, blow all round the camera mount, remove lens...

Pentax K-3 Sensor cleaning advice needed
Yes, the focussing screen is removable which I found out when some microscopic paint flakes from a (new) lens adaptor managed to get everywhere including behind the screen. The plastic is very soft though and easily scratched but at least that doesn't affect the photos, and replacements are availabl...
