to establish some compelling competitive advantage
So it's a point and shoot with an APS sensor and removable lens? Not to mention another lens mount! If Sony are serious about this segment of the market they'll have to try harder than this. The current PEN and GF-1 models can use existing lenses, the Samsung GX10 looks the part, but the So...

to establish some compelling competitive advantage
You should take a close look at the sensor because that's a new type of CMOS sensor that's rear illuminated and they said it's going to be more sensitive than any current sensor. Samsung is also busy developing one so the chance is likely that Pentax would use such sensor in their upcoming camera.

Yes, he definitely has, Pentax were then the leading camera maker of SLRs iirc, and all the press used them, or was it still the big plate cameras? In the 70s, Pentax were ahead of all the rest.:D It's typical of AP to be technically, shall we say, hit or miss. Last month in the AskAP section, a re...

Not a pointless thread :( My poor P70
That looks like a banding issue, it's either Pentax or the sensor manufacturers fault.

Not a pointless thread :( My poor P70
Well - it had better be fixed . I ignored it last time thinking it was a user error and it progressed after a few good shots to a screen full of Multicoloured vertical lines , and this I took to be sensor problems. When the camera was returned to me last week I was told that the lens had been ca...

Not a pointless thread :( My poor P70
Yeah I'm not sure how cost effective it would be to replace the sensor. I'm with John and try to get a new camera an H90 is closer to the P70 and I found it a very nice camera to use when I tested it in the shop. It isn't as sexy as the red P70 though. That's of course if you want to stay with Pe...

Not a pointless thread :( My poor P70
Hooray for Chris and SRS  Chris was looking at the sorry saga . Like everyone he also thought the original was a sensor problem . He was rooting about in the stores and hit on a little box - still sealed saying Pentax Optio 70 :D He says he was totally unaware of this one. So ...

John - can you fix the name change for me please ? It has to be admitted that 2 cameras died on me last year - and one of those was a sensor problem .

Yes - I can't praise SRS highly enough :) Chris had been told of my latest problem on Monday evening and that's when he found the other P70 . I phoned SRS on Tuesday morning about it explaining that I was really not very happy and Chris phoned me back in the afternoon . I'd been dreading what...

Filters - Which and why??
For digital photography, the polariser is almost the only filter you will ever need. Everything else can be done in Photoshop without putting extra glass in front of the lens. I agree with that however I would at Natural Density & Graduated Natural Density filter to the list. For ND I would get thre...

16-45
To be more precise: The focal length of the lens used on a full-frame sensor or an APS-sized sensor is the same (i.e. achieves the same magnification) but since the smaller sensor only captures a smaller central portion of the image projected by the lens, the field of view obtained in the latter ...

16-45
All digital camera manufacturers use full-frame as the reference for focal length. On Olympus, for example, the crop factor is 2x, effectively doubling the apparent focal length. The crop factor becomes an advantage at telephoto, when the crop factor gives a field of view of a 300mm lens on an APS-s...

Pentax P&S ??
One thing NOT shouted about with the I-10 is the stabilisation system. It's not done by software but by sensor movement, like the DSLRs. That alone has to be the thing worth getting one for, the images I've seen so far are excellent. If you want a viewfinder on a P&S you're going to struggl...

Zoom lenses are the work of the Devil.
I can see the argument for a SuperZoom for those times when you just have absolutely no idea what you are going to encounter Which is probably 99% of the time for most of us:wink: One point on one has mentioned yet is frequency of lens changes and the amount of crud that enters your camera, this ...

Zoom lenses are the work of the Devil.
One point on one has mentioned yet is frequency of lens changes and the amount of crud that enters your camera, this may not have been much of a problem with film cameras but it certainly is with digital, perhaps with this in mind a new topic should be started "are primes the work of the devil":) ...

Zoom lenses are the work of the Devil.
I haven't found too much problem with crud on the sensor when changing prime lenses, and I change them 2-3 times daily if I am using my camera. It's an idea to take sensible precautions, though, like holding the camera facing down and out of the wind, avoiding dusty areas and the like. After a chang...

Zoom lenses are the work of the Devil.
I've heard that phrase "coatings not designed for digital" I'm baffled too. I've never heard this phrase before. Yes the lens will have a larger image circle to account for 35mm, but that's a feature due to the internal construction of the lens - not the lens coating itself????? Apparently the new ...

Zoom lenses are the work of the Devil.
The sensor is highly reflective and new coatings have been designed to minimise reflection between sensor and rear element.
