I think I miss the point from that, you still need the correct register distance for the k-mount so it won't make the camera smaller... it would be better to have a DSLR like they are now and if you want to be EVIL you can use live view I still obsessing over the idea of a FF Evil... with kmount
the real issue is eliminating the mirror and it's associated mechanics, and a chunk of expensive optical glass from the camera...
so a pelicile mirror helps, a detachable evf finder and articulated flip out display on back, and pentax's sdm lenses gives you silent, fast af while recording video.... older lenses with manual focus work well for video....
The main reason to go evil is this:
You set the camera up so it has a huge buffer and record video and still snap stills at the same time....
My sony camcorders can grab two and five megapixel stills to memory card while sending video to tape/harddrive...simultaneously.
An evil that does that with hd video and 12-20 mp stills would be the ultimate wedding/event camera....
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I think they should make a mount with a smaller register though, it helps to make faster lenses and you can always use an adaptor to extent it to the length of the K-mount and to the mount Nikon, Sony, Canon use
I really don't know about the EVIL camera though, I at least don't like them.
What you suggest for filming and taking photos at the same time can also be done with DSLR, it's just a K7 with that ability I miss the point why it should be evil.
I'm however really hoping though that those transparent TFT will replace the simple red AF squares that light up in the viewfinder.
You can than switch from DSLR to EVIL if you want and information can be show onto the optical image, that would be so need

well the 10 or so mm difference only matters if there is a new line of lenses to push on the consumer....
which is a stupid move for Pentax to do right now while there are buyers jumping brands over the ff/slow af issue... re-badging a Samsung evil makes sense... and for Samsung orphaning it's d-slrs and making another line of lenses for a ff model wouldn't fly too well either... so thier ff sensor either comes with a k mount, a nex mount (not really possible) or goes into a non interchangeable lens camera.

here is one other reason to ditch the pentaprism and mirror box...
say you're samsung, and you have a ff sensor, and Pentax k mounts...
you take pentax sr system, and mount the whole sr and sensor on a rail that you can move forwards and back in the space that used to be occupied by the mirror... you use it with the af in the lens, af and also move the sensor for focus (that has been done before, Contax for eg)... so using both the sdm and sensor movement to do the af....
move the sensor forward (cropping the sensor in effect) and add an adaptor to use the nex lenses, move the sensor backwards and a ff kmount lens or aps c lens....

Indeed but think about the possibilities. well the 10 or so mm difference only matters if there is a new line of lenses to push on the consumer....
Just look at the normal 4/3th mount.
14-35mm f/2.0
35-100mm f/2.0
90-250mm f/2.8
Those are lenses you most likely will never see on an 135format mount simply because the register is too long and the lens opening is too small.
The difference between 4/3th and the K-mount is only 7mm in register and 4mm in throat diameter of the mount.
So you can have 4/3th size camera with APS-C sensor and faster lenses than other ASP-C DSLR, that's a win win
About Samsung and Pentax, both have openly said they want to explore/head into different direction so I don't think we will see a re-badge Samsung or Pentax any more.
I even wonder if there would be a Samsung sensor in the new Pentax.

That's a very interesting idea.here is one other reason to ditch the pentaprism and mirror box...

But they will need a new AF system though

I see the K-r will have focus points illuminated in the viewfinder.
And interestingly a Li-ion battery with an adapter to take AAs.
More news on Thursday.
