K7 Problems ?

Strange comments from a lot of you considering Pentax themselves have released a PDF stating that all K7's suffer from a greenline when the CCD gets "hot" (27 degrees seems to be the temp to bring it on). Video or live view is intensive on the camera, so brings it out. As does very hot weather I gu...

K7 Problems ?

Re-reading, as always on forums - I hope that post does not come across the wrong way... I'm not trolling, and pretty disappointed to hear of the sensor problems as I usually use cameras in very hot countries. I was set on a K7, however suspect of new models (teething problems) and then this!

K7 Problems ?

Strange comments from a lot of you Agreed. It would be very interesting to know when Pentax became aware of this issue and why they have chosen not do anything about it (the document is dated 21st July and it would presumably have been a simple matter to include a new setting in the firmware u...

K7 Problems ?

I had the green line in the sensor problem as I mentioned in a previous K-7 post and it was reproducible. I sent it back to SRS for an exchange and the new one is fine. From the anecdotal evidence that I've read so far, it only seems to have happened with a few of the first batch of cameras.

K7 Problems ?

I believe that the recording time of video (or live view) is not that relevant here. It is sensor temp. When it pushes 27 degrees, the green line occurs. So this is relevant to external conditions, and lets be honest - so far the English "summer" has sucked... ;-) The fact the Pentax released a "...

K7 Problems ?

Well, with a heavy heart my 2nd K-7 is going back for a refund. Thing is the problem is so simple that I am surprised at not hearing anyone else on here mention it. Simply, when using the grip, the rear dial stops working, randomly it may come back, then go again etc. Had the grip replaced 2 week...

raw vs jpeg

RAW and JPEG aren't competing, they are aspects of the same thing. It's a bit like a baking a cake. With RAW, you have all the ingedients and you decide what combination, amount and cooking to use. The cake will be to your personal taste. With JPEG, the ingredients are the same but the combina...

Noise

Is this a case of the sensor heating up and creating its own 'noise'? Perhaps other members with a greater degree of knowledge than me could explain further... :)

Noise

Is this a crop ? And what was the iso setting used with this picture. The K110D has a 6MP sensor,I believe? I ask because supposedly the lower mega pixel count cameras often handle noise better as the 10+ MP ones. PhotoMe doesn't show any data, so sorry for so much questions. Martin.

Noise

I would like to see the full picture, instead of the crop. It is a bit hard, this way in coming up with a answer that makes sense. In comparison (hopefully) was taken with a K10D,ISO 100, about 18 minutes at F 5.6 and with NR ON. which took an extra 18 minutes. I just show it, because now.......

Noise

Could the metering have gone all to c*ck because light has entered via the viewfinder? That can affect metering, but once the mirror is up there should be no light-path to the sensor from the viewfinder. G

If this was a pitch black sky I (it was right, with those white lines being star trails??), I think you either have a sensor problem, or the camera simply doesn't handle night exposures very well. Martin.

Photographing star trails ?

You can take multiple shots with your k10d for example some off 30 seconds and merge them together on the pc. When taking multiple shots your sensor can also cool down slightly between the shots.

Photographing star trails ?

What gear did you use for that shot Martin, a remote with a Bulb lock? You also have digital remotes which you can program. I was thinking of getting one of those and set it to make 10 shots of 30 seconds with an interval of 1 second with the hope that's enough to cool the sensor down.

Photographing star trails ?

Just the cable release with the bulb lock. And I would not worry to much about heating up the sensor. I didn't, and the camera didn't exactly go up in flames. Martin.

Shutter synch with Flash

It's not just a Metz - it's down to which flashgun supports HS mode (High Speed sync). The reason is technical and down to the physical construction of the shutter in the body. 1/180s is the fastest shutter speed where the two curtains in the shutter are at their extremity. In other words, the le...

Why i am switching from Pentax to Nikon

I can understand why you have changed, but it is a shame that you had to sell the Pentax gear in the first place. I have taken images in low light on the K20D up to 1600ISO and not really had a problem with noise. However after doing a recent corporate evening do to help a friend out, a couple...
