Why i am switching from Pentax to Nikon

i suppose the real clincher is... had i been a victim of peer pressure, would i have bought a pentax in the first place? the answer is 'no' many more people suggesting i go for Canon and a few suggesting Nikon, as it is i did what i always do, check the specs of the camera look at side by side revi...

Why i am switching from Pentax to Nikon

i have checked the specs of the Nikon sensor and it looks lush It's probably the best low light sensor I have seen in any camera approaching an affordable price point ... but I don't think I could actually describe it as lush

Why i am switching from Pentax to Nikon

no your right, pentax have produced some brilliant lenses, but not the ones i want unfortunatly if you can find me a 24-70mm f2.8 pentax lens - plus a 70-200mm f2.8 pentax lens then i will hang around for a bit hows that? Not taking any sides here (just enjoying the cut and thrust:wink:), but th...

FOV would be equivalent but not actual image size on the sensor. Agreed? Regards[/quote] Well, of course. The sensor is bigger. This is why a bigger sensor is, all else being equal, capable of higher quality, just as 6x7 is theoretically better than 6x4.5. But many more people bought 6...

Why i am switching from Pentax to Nikon

I actually think this assumption: "longer is closer so a 135 on cropped sensor isn't apparently as close as 200mm on FF." is wrong. I think they are exactly the same. But I might be wrong. :D

Why i am switching from Pentax to Nikon

A 135mm lens on a APS-C sized sensor will give the same size of image as a 200mm lens on 35mm film. Actually 202.5mm, but let's not be too pedantic!

Why i am switching from Pentax to Nikon

Basically, the lens casts the same image on the sensor as it does on the film. But on the DSLR, some of the image isn't recorded because the sensor isn't big enough. You have therefore in effect cropped the image. This in turn means you will have to enlarge the recorded image more to get the ...

Why i am switching from Pentax to Nikon

Because full frame records more of the image projected by the lens. Therefore the bottle on the fence will appear smaller in the frame than if the same lens was used on a crop sensor.

Why i am switching from Pentax to Nikon

The shorter lens doesn't make the image the same size on the smaller sensor. It crops your image, which then needs to be enlarged more to give you the same size as the picture shot with the longer lens on film. If the lens wasn't very sharp, the additional enlargement would result in a less sh...

Why i am switching from Pentax to Nikon

It seems so George, pity it always goes down that road with these subjects. The advance with the DSLR is going very fast, if you looked back 10 years ago at the Nikon D1. The Nikon D1 was seen as the first pro DSLR I believe. it had an APS-C sensor so 1.5x crop and a whopping 2.66 megapixels wi...

Jpeg vs Raw processing questions

To answer the question directly, RAW gives you unprocessed information from the sensor. You can decide white balance, sharpness and everything else for yourself. With jpeg, a Pentax engineer has decided for you what the white balance, sharpening et al will be according to his taste. They are ski...

Cleaning camera's and lenses!

There are plenty of threads on the forum describing how to clean sensors etc, but non at all on cleaning the "outside" of either body's or lenses. My K20 goes everywhere with me,work included,so it does get a bit grubby(to say the least...).I was wondering how other members cope with the genera...

Cleaning camera's and lenses!

Lenses need a Pentax Microfibre Cloth. The outside of the camera and lens gets dusted/wiped with either a blower brush (for nooks and crannies) or a well washed clean cotton handkerchief (the older and softer the better).

Cleaning camera's and lenses!

Its weathersealed, just take it out in the rain and then wipe it dry:D:D:D For the exterior I use an old blower brush to remove dust etc, for places that get grubby like the handgrip I use a damp cloth then quickly wipe dry with as John says a soft hankerchief.

Cleaning camera's and lenses!

You can use Isopropyl Alcohol on a cotton bud with care. It will shift greasy marks on bodies and it's a trick the second hand sellers use to improve the look of older kit (so I was told). You will have to find a real chemist to get it though as most so called "chemists" are actally pharmasists and...

Cleaning camera's and lenses!

You can use Isopropyl Alcohol  Is that the proper name for vodka? I tend to clean my kit the same way John does, soft lens brush for the fiddly bits and a soft cloth for the rest.8)

Cleaning camera's and lenses!

A light spray of Johnstone's furniture polish on a microfibre cloth works wonders and it's anti static,
