Idiots at play

Just arrived home from a dirtbike riding long weekend with a bunch of mates. Mostly enjoyable i must say. We have a stupid game we play where as, if you are first into bed after a heavy night drinking around the camp fire and anyone happens to find a stray lizard, marsupial or giant insect it ge...

Norton AV 360

Matt, the only reason I mentioned my up an coming website was because if and when it has a shop on it I was worried about purchasing protection. Irrelevant. The shopping-cart is run from the HOST web-site computer, not yours ;) My suggestion: 1. Download Eset install file onto your desktop (or d...

Selling Photographs

Of course, tax specialists tend to earn rather more than snappers. G PS: Manual flash can be triggered in three ways: By the camera's RTF - which requires a sensor on the remote flashgun (some have them built-in) By cable - reliable, but can trip you up By an IR trigger - best but most ex...

It would be helpful if there were no replies or comments to spam messages as they cause confusion and add to the work when cleaning up the thread.

K10 repair

just picked up my k10 (it died while on UK holiday)from the Post office, repair has been made (not by the PO)and turnaround was 3 weeks. No details of the problem were listed, just a job sheet and a bag with all the relaced parts, motherboard, flash unit and what looks like the sensor.plus a load...

I would Like To..................

If you are going to move to Pentax then you'll have the advantage of having the choice of some outstanding optics. All of the lenses, including M42 screw, ever made by Pentax can be used (with some limitiations) on all of their DSLR bodies. The K20D body has got to be my recommendation. Mine will...

My K10 Stopped Working

The sensor is clean enough, and there will always be some dust, it's one of the things that is unavoidable. I don't get too hung up about it. Maybe I'll get the Dyson out tomorrow . . .:D  :D

My newest toy

Just curious, which 18-55 lens did it come with? Over here we've been fobbed off with the Mk1 lens, while in the US the K200 seems to have the Mk2 one. I did a deal and went for the Mk2 with my K200, which does seem sharper than the older unit, that could be the 10 meg sensor though!

My newest toy

You can't tell unless you compare like with like, but the new lens is reputed to have a resolution that is more suitable for the 14.2MP sensor of the K20D. It has one less element, which is interesting, so there has clearly been a redesign. Both lenses should be sharp, certainly when stopped down...

Photokina 2008 Announcements

BTW How is the new K20 going. I like it a lot :D The CMOS sensor seems different when processing RAW - seems smoother and with a larger latitude. My last 3 ephotozine shots are K20D: (Horse Whisperer, Backlit Roxy, and Light Up the Darkness) The resolution is just phenomenal - even on the (now...

New K20D Owner changed from Nikon

Hi ttk, Yes I am a pro photographer who is also ditching Nikon, just got rid of my D2x bodies and the glass is going as well. I am using the K20D with an 18-250mm at the moment picking up the new Pentax lenses this week :) Nikon gear just seems to drop in price too quickly every time they bring...

Joke someone told me last night

A rabbit walks into a pub and says to the barman, 'Can I have a pint of beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie?'. The barman is amazed but gives the rabbit a pint of beer and a ham and cheese toastie. The rabbit drinks the beer and eats the toastie, he then leaves. The following night the rabbit retu...

WINDOWS OR MAC.???

Argee, You simply took it the wrong way. I will always say what I think, and what my experience tells me - anybody is welcome to use my advice, or discard it at their will Nothing to 'defend' myself from, I simply told a true story to make a point I have learnt that often, with technol...

Sharpness or content or hobby

Weekends are like off periods in school, where life starts living then and there only. Woke up this Saturday with Sun and thought of going for a visit to the car boot sale with my camera and for my camera. Had Pink Floyd in my ears, 50mmf1.7 on my K100D and tears in my eyes for the cold biting win...

Will we see a body with a non crippled mount again ?

I would love to see it, but gave up all remaining hope when the K20D came out without it. The only way I can see it being done now is if the hypothetical K1D were to come out with a larger than APS sensor. That being the case, it might make sense to Pentax to re-instate the aperture coupler so as...

Friendly

I've noticed that Pentax (as a brand) seems to appeal more to photographers than gear-heads. As we can't spend all day bragging about having the fastest AF, the most FPS, the highest ISO or the biggest sensor we tend to fall back on that old quaint hobby of taking pictures instead. Then we lik...

Tamron 90mm SP f2.5 Macro Lens - Adaptall

My understanding of 1:1 macro is that an object of, say, 20 mm size will fill 20 mm of the active sensor area. Whether this is an APS-C digital sensor or a 35 mm film frame does not really matter. Maybe the experts can confirm if this is a correct definition. What say, Clarky?

Tamron 90mm SP f2.5 Macro Lens - Adaptall

Yes Terry I believe so too, although i'm not Clarky :) The size of the sensor can not change the characteristics of a lens. Because that the sensor is smaller it captured less from the projected image. If you crop on your pc things doesn't change of your lens either, the object always stays 10 pix...
