Tamron 90mm SP f2.5 Macro Lens - Adaptall
Stefan, I agree with your bug example. However, using a photo processing program (e.g. PSE6) you can resample the picture to any pixel size, so that example just adds to confusion. The main thing is that true 1:1 macro means that the object is projected at life size onto the sensor/film frame....

A question about Forum ethics.
Hi Amin, A few basics on exposure.. I apologise if you already know some/all of this already. (I don't use a K20, but the principles are the same for all cameras) The sensor, be that digital or film is sensetive to a certain dynamic range of light, and will automatically adjust to what is kno...

A question about Forum ethics.
Liam Thanks very much for that brief explanation. I will eagerly await for more. The way you have explained definitely adds more in my understanding. And do not worry about the fact if you might be explaining something that I might have already a grasp on it, even if I have, reading through s...

The impact the sensor size has on the lens
When reading the the question again how the lens would be on digital compared to on a 35mm format I began to calculate the DOF and discover it does make a diffrence. I will take the FA* 85mm f/1.4 and the DA* 55mm f/1.4 because of the smaller ASP-C sensor the DA* 55mm will have an angle of view a...

The impact the sensor size has on the lens
Look Stefan, even got pictures.:lol::lol: Seriously, I think you are right, but..........to be honest, After the first paragraph the headache started to kick in. Good light to you, Martin.

The impact the sensor size has on the lens
Your first paragraph correctly identifies that for the same magnification the DOF is the same at a given aperture regardless of the lens. This is why it doesn't matter from a purely DOF point of view whether we use a 50mm or 100mm Macro lens. There are other factors of course, such as working distan...

The impact the sensor size has on the lens
Since John and I went of topic in a thread lets continue here. The quotations of the post came from here after all. here is our conversation so far. This is a thing that's often misquoted, but smaller formats have more DOF for a given field of view and that's because the focal length of the len...

The impact the sensor size has on the lens
The confusion (not the circle of confusion!) arises because you are assuming that focal length affects the DOF and although in a general sense this is true, it's actually the magbification that's relevant. You have two cameras side by side with identical lenses, but different formats. So the magn...

The impact the sensor size has on the lens
John I see your point but you don't see my point I believe. The lens in this case is 85mm so if the focus distance and the length from the lens to the film keeps the same we can say that the magnification of the lens is the same regardless the crop the film is making. You do agree on the right? ...

The impact the sensor size has on the lens
Okay John here is the drawing. All the lenses have the same focal length and have the same magnification on the angle of view/ film size is differend. So my thought was if you used the last lens for example and use that on different formats you get this image. To get the same image su...

I think we're getting tied in a knot here, so I'll return to it tomorrow with some appropriate references for you to examine should you wish to do so.

The impact the sensor size has on the lens
Sorry about the delay getting back to you Stefan, but things have been a bit busy. I think there are two ways to approach this, the everyday practical way and the scientific theoretical way. I would suggest the latter is outside the scope of this forum for most readers, so I'd refer you to a t...

Don't worry John, I'm just out of bed for an 2 hours  Will write those books down and take a look if they have it in the library... they are English so might be a problem but any book will probable do. As for wiki, it's a fast way to get some information but like you said not all informa...

Latest profits for Canon...
I had to admit that the AF is slower than Canon and the lenses don't have a specific panning mode. So that might have convinced him to avoid Pentax who knows. Pentax have said after the K10D that the next camera would have a better sensor or better AF since they don't have time and money to spend...

Manual Digital Body?
Oh, I don't know. I'd be very tempted by a digital MX! But an auto focus one would definitely sell better! However... it would be an APS-C sensor so they'd have to put an aperture ring on the DA lenses to get the old feel back (or reintroduce some of the old FA series!) Still, we can dream....
