newbie advice
Some of these are hgetting a bit old now to expect that they won't need some servicing before regular use. You might look at the late Pentax film SLRs that have conventional shutter dials and can be used in a traditional way. Manual focus: MZ-M Autofocus: MZ5, MZ5n and MZ3 All these should...

My first time!!
I have never developed 120 roll film but I have developed 35mm and 5x4 (35mm probably about 20 years ago now, and 5x4 before Christmas). My memory of 35mm was getting the stuff on the reel in the dark was a pain, but after that it was all pretty straightforward. With 5x4 the pain is getting the fil...

My first time!!
oo that takes me back!! why don't you scan on a flat bed scanner and convert into Photoshop ?? James You should be ok on a flatbed scanner with 120 film, I know I've managed to scan a few old glass plates that way which were slightly larger than 120 frames. Unfortunately they date from around ...

pentax sfx 35mm film camera
I don't think these later bodies had foam light seals? None of mine (SF7, SFX, P30t) do and there's no sign of them originally being present. I think Pentax had managed to develop the design of the door edges to the point where the foam wasn't needed. Actually, if you look very carefully the SF vari...

pentax sfx 35mm film camera
I took mine out this afternoon and fired off the first six shots of a roll of slide film. Should be some moody atmospheric stuff of a bridge that crops up in more than a few car magazines. I suspect your daughter might be more impressed with something like a P30t (which in itself is a bit of an o...

Boots Slide Film
Incidentally, the roll I have just finished in my Ricoh was three years in the camera. It appeared none the worse for it, except for the fact that the foam light shields in the camera back were a bit perished and some light had leaked in. I think when I last used film regularly, I had masking tap...

Scratches on negatives
I have an MZ-3 and recently started scanning the negatives. Mostrecently these are coming back VERY scratched. My local shop says they are not down to hiom but when i showed the results he didn't think they were camera based. He claims his scanner removes scratches very accuratley, hence the scratch...

Scratches on negatives
It might be worthwhile just checking inside the film chamber for any dust particles or any feint tram lines on the pressure plate on the inside of the camera back or on either side of the shutter aperture. But my guess is that the processing is to blame. Try someone else and see if you have lines i...

ME Super Shutter jammed open. Advice sought.
Weirdest thing. The ME Super was just sitting on a shelf and all of a sudden there was a "click"..... The shutter just closed back. How odd. I really have no idea whether this was something I pressed when it originally happened or whether it's just a slightly sticking mechanism. Though I have run...

Me Super - some problems
If he forced the wind on lever when the camera was jammed then something will be broken inside. The mirror lock-up is probably a symptom of the original jam - quite often it's caused by the upper shutter blades not dropping properly, when this happens the mirror doesn't drop as it's rigged to do so ...

Me Super - some problems
You can sometimes clear this jam by smacking the base of the camera against the palm of your hand, but it will come back. There is a site detailing the common causes of ME/ME Super jams, I think it generally comes back near the top of the results if you Google "Pentax ME Jammed". Or you could just ...

S1/H1 fun.
This last weekend, I was out playing with my recently acquired S1/H1 (9+ in all departments, including Asahi Pentax clip-on meter and 2.2/55 Auto Takumar lens, and leatherette ever-ready case (with an extra large hood to accomodate the lightmeter in its mounted position). In addition, I wanted to...

S1/H1 fun.
From what I understand Asahi often "reserved" batches of serial numbers for later productions, so there's no guarantee that a lower number means an older camera. If you have one of the early Super-Tak 50/1.4's (with the protruding rear element) then be wary of using it on the 389xxx / green R body. ...

Another film camera........ :-)
It is the little brother of the Super A / Super Program (the latter name was used in the US). Lovely cameras in the tradition of the M series but with more bells and whistles. Everything got a major redesign when the SF series came along. It takes the MEII winder or the Motordrive A. The manua...

Anyone still uses film?
I still use 35mm film and slide film. I can see the advantages to digital and use the K10D when shooting sports. I use film when I want to work on something for myself. I also use Med. format when I want real quality. Digital has changed how I view photography. when I judge photographs, I tend to be...

Anyone still uses film?
I use film for fun, including 5x4 large format. I do not find it "better" than digital (that is an old and hackneyed argument which digital is winning). I do find, however, that is slows me down and makes me remember all the things I so painfully learnt 30 years ago. It is less "film" per se but ...
