Its a lot of camera, too, for £15.

I think SFXs with their original kit lens will become rather rare as time goes on - most people buy them for the 35-70mm (or those few examples with a 50mm)!
I'm keeping mine, even if I doubt I'll use it much as it doesn't leave the film header out (so I can't put the film in my Rondinax tank). Have put a roll of slide film in and will be using it over the summer though.
It's worth seeking out the AA battery grip, mine now sports one and as a result can share battery stocks with the K-m.

I don't think these later bodies had foam light seals? None of mine (SF7, SFX, P30t) do and there's no sign of them originally being present. I think Pentax had managed to develop the design of the door edges to the point where the foam wasn't needed.

My poor old KR10 Super needs new seals.
I used insulating tape around the four door edges for the last few years but seemed to miss an edge on the last film I shot (03/07-03/10).
Still, put a film in the MZ6 yesterday and took a few shots. Seemed a fairly pleasant experience, using DA 18-55 & 50-200.
The MZ6 has a 'Pentax' function which sets how the leader is left on rewinding a film. Was that a later development compared with SFX?

The MZ6 was much later than the SFX. After the MZ6 the last film SLR was the *ist.

My SFXn came with the F50/1.7. Bought new sometime in the late 80's I think. Its been a great camera over the years, but these days gets no use. Last year I even bought a new battery for it, but alas I never seem to find the time, or inclination to play with it.
I can't part with it though. Its pretty much in mint condition and I have had it since new.
Cheers,
/Ian

It's odd how it goes. I'm not as keen on the AF film bodies as I am on the manual/mechanical ones. If I could take my SFX or my MX out for the afternoon then the MX will always win due to being a perfectly engineered little gem. The SFX just feels as though it's hiding things, although it has a much better LCD readout than many other cameras of the era (I always struggle with bodies that don't indicate their chosen aperture in Program mode).
Ian, there is a battery grip for the SFX/SFXn to allow it to use conventional AAs, it makes the handgrip slightly larger but it means you can use readily available batteries. Mine is currently using the old Energiser Lithiums from my K-m.

Actually, if you look very carefully the SF variants have three, one on the back around the DX coding window and another two, top and bottom of the take up spool in the channel the door fits into. Goodness knows how you would replace those two!I don't think these later bodies had foam light seals? None of mine (SF7, SFX, P30t) do and there's no sign of them originally being present. I have the AA grip on one body and Data Back Fb on the other. Having just been given one back by my 14 year old daughter this afternoon, she rightly sees little attraction in film, I played around with it and was impressed by the accuracy and speed of its low light autofocus and metering accuracy.

I took mine out this afternoon and fired off the first six shots of a roll of slide film. Should be some moody atmospheric stuff of a bridge that crops up in more than a few car magazines.
I suspect your daughter might be more impressed with something like a P30t (which in itself is a bit of an oddball - Pentax offering a new manual wind manual focus body a year after replacing the SF series), there's just much more of a feeling of control when you have to wind on and focus manually.

I just bought one off the bay because it had a lens with it that i wanted so when it comes it'll be up for sale.
Not sure about price i'd probably be happy with the first £15+ £5 postage that i'd be offered. will come with instruction book.
