Pentax K-01

I've just taken my K-5 outside to take some photos of crocuses in the afternoon sunlight with my 50mm FA macro lens. I tried using liveview to simulate taking such a photo on a K-01 but I couldn't see what I was taking as the screen was reflecting the sunlight. Getting a shot in focus wasn't possibl...

Pentax K-01

Its an age thing. Since turning 40 I need to put on reading glasses for anything close to me, like an l.c.d. display. Then I have to take them off again to look at the subject I am photographing. That’s not to mention the fact that even with glasses, in strong sunlight I can’t make out the LCD im...

I think the people wanting a k-mount with evf and articulated screen had best wait for Ricoh to release a k-mount grx... I suspect a weather sealed k-02 with evf is already being developed for release in 1-2 years... think about it.. if you were Ricoh.. wouldn't you go this way? get your r&d mon...

Pentax K-01

in case my other post gets deleted for linking to another forum.. here is a quote from singapore users hands on experience with the k-01: Many among the group plan to get one. No brainer upgrade for those shooting manual focus. The screen is good enough that any viewfinder is frankly redundant. N...

Pentax K-01

I am afraid, the K01 will give another reason for Pentax Users to jump and will certainly add very few new users I don't see that at all. This will attract buyers who may want to use it as a back-up to their Kr/K5 and I can see it being very attractive to people moving on from P&S who want an easy...

Pentax K-01

A group of our friends were over last night (some male, mostly female) and saw the pictures - they ALL like it and ALL want one (they won't actually buy one of course:-) - they are all late 30s/early-to-mid 40 (so not 'kids'), and (with the exception of the two - female - who have one) think DSLRs ...

the iphone has got "small thin and trendy" locked up...anybody that thinks a more expensive camera trying to compete is not gonna be selling cameras in that market... Sony doesn't have to care if thier small thin trendy cameras flop... guess where the only division at sony turning a profit is? the d...

I don't agree there is only so much lattitude here with interchangeable lenses, and eventually there will be an iphone with zoom lens, lightfield focus and nex is in trouble, but in the mean time try this with the nex: you can stand it on all four sides... nice for when you don't have a trip...

Pentax K-01

I am sure Pentax are not surprised that the product divides large parts of their existing market. We're not really the intended audience. For example most of us seem to hate HDR. But it is wildly popular. Perhaps we are the ones out of step with the market out there? The HDR mode on the selector dia...

Pentax K-01

I think a while back someone from Pentax was saying they had identified a niche in the market that no other manufacturer was exploiting and was going to target it. Hence the K-01. That is good as it means more Pentax cameras being sold. So long as the replacements for the K-r and K-5 come out ...

Pentax K-01

The HDR mode on the selector dial, which Robin ridiculed a few pages back, shows where this camera might be aimed at. Just to be clear on that point. 1. I do not hate HDR. 2. I think any competitive camera needs an HDR mode in today's market. 3. However, these modes are crippled and essent...

Algi - that's quite a lot actually as they were on sale at £349 new (now £379)! I dithered too long about the two lens kit at £479 and it's gone back to £549 :( Matt

(Reply to Shaky's post) Only time will tell... but no photographer or even manufacturer (considering how many there are) is going to want to pay for maintaining a range of lenses in more than one mount. It will be a nightmare for the likes of Sigma, but the camera manufacturers won't be concerned a...

The downside to adopting the K Mount is that it defines the distance between the back of the lens and the sensor, known as the flange back distance. This is 45mm for K Mount cameras, which is significantly deeper than in rival CSC systems such as Micro Four Thirds (20mm) and Sony NEX (18mm). As such...

We also won't mention that you don't need to buy any extra lenses  But we like buying more lenses! ;-) By the way, each adapter for my Olympus PEN cost me 20 bucks. I am now using MFT, PEN F, Leica, and Pentax lenses on the same (small) camera. Sure they're manual focus -- I prefer it that ...

I think the K-01 looks great. Sure it looks different, It is different! I could use all my lenses on it, that's good. It seems to be well specified, that's good. Size is ok. You do have to be able to hold and control it after all and it is still smaller than the k5(A nice small camera I find). B...

I keep looking at that 40mm lens and thinking how frickin easy it would be to build a "Follow focus" device to manually focus it for video shooting! I mean ridiculously easy!:D

I don't think Ricoh are at the cutting edge of EVF technology but I haven't heard anything really negative about Ricoh EVFs. Kai (DigitalRevTV)tested the GXR with M module recently; it might be worth checking that out to see what he said about it (I think the gist of it was 'it's good enough'. 'G...
