Bit of Astro.
Last night the sky was was clear for a change, so I had a play in the back garden. K1 mkII, moon shot with DA*300 and TC 1.4 WR, star shots with DA* 11-18 f2.8. 1. Waxing crescent (heavily cropped); 2. 3. the following two were only changed by using the 'dehaze' function, whic...

No more snow!
At least not recently! A half-term visit to the North-East came with some lovely weather. The locations are not new (to me or the Forum), but I for one never tire of images of the Northumberland coast. Hope you agree! First is a walk along the coast from Craster to Low Newton-by-the-sea and back - ...

Night Sky Shots.
I have recently attempted for the first time, and just now with a stack of 10 of the moon, but it results in completely blown highlights. Back to the drawing board I'm afraid. It looks as though it did a Composite of them all and increased exposure, I have read on various sites saying that stacking ...

Artistic (??) Begonia macros
Playing around with one of Mrs L's begonias, trying to get something a bit beyond the 'detailed record shot of a flower' type of macro. Not enough natural light at the time so continuous artificial light used. All taken with the flower attached to the plant, which was quite a challenge since (a) the...

Birds.
Nice. Used to get one in the garden occasionally but haven't seen one there or anywhere else for years. Strange how these things happen. Starlings were once regulars in the garden, then they disappeared for must be 10 years or more, now they're back again. Twigs in the way, yes but not disturbing...

From a moor to my back garden
Yesterday I took advantage of the nice weather, and headed to Warslow Moor. At tea time I then shot back home to stand in my back garden gawking upwards! I shot colour, B&W, IR, and Astro... Kind of a busy day fannying with cameras! Colour and B&W IR ...

From a moor to my back garden
That's a real QV set Spad 8) Betelgeuse is simple and beautiful, and that first image is simply beautiful  p.s. Quality and Variety if you're wondering

From a moor to my back garden
A stunning set, almost too much to take in at one viewing. I particularly like the tree pictures - the straight trunk turning into twisting branches and the sunburst through the tree with backlit cloud above and patch of light below with shadows as subtle leading lines. Really nice :D. The astro ...

From a moor to my back garden
Steve.... The Cassegrain Telescope acts like a massive mirror lens... the reflector takes a mirror image. Thank you both for your kind words :) PS... I do have a better one of Betelgeuse but not sure I can put it in here. It was taken with a Lumix GF1!

From a moor to my back garden
I love these shots, all are very good - best viewed large and when done so numbers 6 and 12 (panoramic ones) they just blew me away! :)

More Waterside Shots - less dry humour.
Taken this lovely sunny morning around Hooe Lake with the KP and 11-18mm DA*, these are just snaps to brighten up the day - hopefully. Used a CP too, mainly SOOC, and I have noticed the sharpness/focus is not as good as usual, maybe my fault with a handheld slower shutter speed or a lens cloth req'd...

I spy
Lovely bird, lovely photo. Almost as if it was posing just for you :D. Knowing nothing about kookaburras myself, are they tricky things to photograph that disappear at the slightest hint of a human or are they like robins in my part of the world, quite happy to get close to a human on the grounds...

Another Moon shot.
Maybe a bit off topic but back in 2007 I experimented with taking telescope eyepiece images with a small point and shoot Panasonic camera I had, my first digital camera. I was amazed at how well this method worked. The telescope was a Meade ETX105 and the camera was a Lumix DMC-LC80, so I'd point th...

Apple Blossom time
I bought a set of bare root fruit trees early last year and planted them in a variety of large-ish pots. They didn't do much last spring but this year they have really taken and are showing some lovely blossom. These are taken with with the SMC Pentax A 100mm f2.8 Macro lens on the K1 MkII, it is tr...

Pentax K3iii Monochrome First Look
The most important and noticeable thing from my pov was less to do with the camera itself, and more to do with how it made me think: the mindset of working in black and white, and ONLY in black and white. Encourages you as a photographer to seek out form, shape, texture etc., and to concentrate on t...

Tiny fungi
Thanks to all for your comments. It never occurred to me that the second fungus looked anything like a brain; I have seen lots of brains during my career as a research biologist! Agreed about the DA 35mm Macro Limited. It is a great all-rounder if one does not need a zoom or longer focus. I bought i...

Blossom
A 'Thank You' to you both for your comments. UM: I'm still using the free version of the Nik Collection from several years ago - it seems to work seamlessly as a plug-in to PaintShop Pro (mine is the 2022 version). I use only the Silver Efex module, for converting colour to mono in a very simpl...
