After Wind And Rain

Last Monday was the annual visit to Minterne Gardens to see the rhododendrons and azaleas in their full glory. But after a weekend of wind and rain, a lot of the glory was on the ground. So rather than pictures of the surviving flowers, here are some of those that fell foul of the weather. And to fi...

Bedham church revisited.

Nicely done Peter - great tonal range and detail 8) - it's a shame there's only one image  I wasn't happy with the others I took on this trip. Unfortunately, since my last visit, the landowner has put a wire fence and a bloody great "NO ENTRY" sign in front of the building. Understandably the...

Columbines

Good set of varied coloured Columbines as you say. I really like these little, hardy plants. Have just started blooming in our garden and many gardens in vicinity...they don't half spread as well and seem to fend for themselves without any input other than cutting them back once a year. Weat...

Wheels

As a retired railway engineer I always like photos such as these and over the years have photographed quite a few wheel sets myself for Doncaster railway works. Looks an interesting museum. Black and white always works well and I especially like number 2 and 3. With number 1 I find the handrail...

Wheels

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. In the first image I was trying to get more than just the wheelset. But as you say, the rail and cloth do distract. We had to put in the rails round several machines a few years ago after an inspection by the HSE! I've cropped it here - just a little wid...

St Abbs Lighthouse.

No.1 works for me, too - the composition and fishy effect seem to work well together, there's a nice flow from front left to the lighthouse at far right. :D The last one is my pick of the bunch for the lighthouse tucked away and hanging on the edge of the land with nothing but the vast sea beyond...

Just in time!

For all who like field lines, this is my take on this season's. Came across these by chance - just in time, as they were being cleared up while the light lasted. Tried for a broader view in some this time, rather than too tight a focus on the furrows. All comments welcome, as always! 1 2 3...

Just in time!

Great photos, making full use of the patterns available. My other question has to be, "Where are all the cows for whom that huge quantity of silage is destined?" Many never see the outside of their factory floor these days. Everything is delivered to them in carefully metered doses and their (va...

Image heavy - beach and funfare images

A great set Gareth, looks like a spot with loads of potential you can mix with a family day out. Does that water slide hit water - if so did you get any shots with a nice splash? The facial expressions are great too, how about some zoomed in shots to focus on those?

Image heavy - beach and funfare images

Thanks everyone! It's supposed to be an alcohol free zone but that doesn't happen and it can be a little 'crazy' there so not sure I fancy trying to flog images in that situation! A great set Gareth, looks like a spot with loads of potential you can mix with a family day out. Does that water s...

British Super Bikes Test @ Donington Park 08/06/2021

Looks like a successful day out to me, all very nice. My favorite has to be No.3 ticks all my boxes. For this kind of shooting does the K3 III make much difference do you think? It was my first real day out with the k3iii, so still getting to grips with it. I should have spent more time looking a...

Ver Valley (near St Albans) quick K3iii 18-135 snaps

Took the 18-135 out for the first time with the K3iii yesterday morning for a quick walk before it got hot. It's very convenient and focus is very assured with the new camera. Not quite so impressed with the lens (I had one previously with the K-5iiS and thought it was really quite excellent then ...

Red Kite - 2500mm limit

We feel really privileged - happened to chance on a Red Kite near Millington Woods this afternoon and spent 10 minutes watching the magnificent bird swirling across the fields looking for food (usually we see such wonderful birds and they disappear immediately). They say a picture paints a 1,000 wor...

Corn Flower Field

Glorious cornflowers. I particuarly like the first few, with a few in-focus flowers emerging from a soft cloud of blue. :D Have you considered entering one of the cornflower field shots for this year's Countryfile Calendar? Steve

A few around Ambleside

I looked at no. 1 and thought "That's going to take some beating - it's got everything - light, colour, shape, trees, patterns - a lovely woodland scene." Then I came to no. 6. A robin posing? That's what it looks like to me anyway - looking straight at the camera, a little tilt of the head to one s...
