Change out auto focusing screen replace with split screen
Hi Steve, Thanks. Basically I find it easier to manual focus with a split prism screen. The auto focus screen is a bit trickier. I wondered thought, that, if it did take a split prism screen I could get crisper shots when manually focusing. Regards, Angelo

Selling MZ-S?????
I think Ffordes have one in their used list just now at £350 or thereabouts - this is just for the body if I remember correctly . I paid about the same amount for mine (from them) a year or more back , and £100 or so for the grip when one became available later . While it is true that most oth...

Selling MZ-S?????
I have been filing my old transparencies in slide pages on a lightbox and it has reminded me of the miracle that is film photography - each one of those vivid little 35mm gems of colour shining up at me is the direct result of light rays bouncing off friends, family, objects and landscapes and into ...

will I be better off with a pentax
Thanks MX veteran, I have found an MZ5 on ebay for a very good price. I will see how I go on and if I don't like it perhaps I can come back to you. Anyone want to buy a Yashica FD-X?

should meet most needs. Basically any lens described as K, M, A, FA, or DFA will work fine with an MZ5. Avoid DA (reduced image circle and no aperture ring) and FAJ (no aperture ring so you can only use them in Tv or P mode) lenses. A good start is to pick of a 50mm 1.7 'standard' lens - the m...

The following is a rough guide (I've over-simplified a bit) as there are exceptions to every rule, but this should get you started (all based on your new film camera): A lens with a focal length of 50mm (or thereabouts) is considered "normal" A lens with a focal length less than 50mm...

Cheers Clarky - I'll mention you in my sleeve notes...  Leica make a 50mm/f1 called the Noctilux which is available to special order and costs about £10k. Canon briefly made one in the 1960's (also 50mm) which is rare as hens' teeth and would probably set you back the same as a n...

Thanks again Hefty does that the scale of apertures/speeds only apply to 300mm or to all lenses. I'm just going back to what George said earlier where what is fast in 300mm is not fast in say 50mm? Jeff

thanks George, like I said the penny has dropped about the relative diameter of the aperture compared to the length. Camera has finally arrived and it has the 28 - 70 f4-f22 lens. First impressions are it so flipping light and the auto focus is just amazing (to me anyway) The operation/...

The operation/action of the lens seems a bit "scratchy" when you adjust the focus and zoom. Is it possible to lubricate or clean the action? I've had a few of the SMC-FA 28-70 f/4 lenses. They are all a bit like that, alas. But don't let that put you off ;) Pentax put some excellent glas...

Yes, keeping a log of which settings you use with each picture will be invaluable whilst you're learning the craft - it'll give you something to refer back to and if you take shots that are less than satisfactory you'll be able to work out where you went wrong and correct them for next time around. ...

K1000 age
In case there is some form of sequence in the issue of serial numbers, it might be useful to you to know that I purchased my K1000 serial number 7514336 new in June 1977. I believe that only the early cameras have a raised circular dimple in the top panel between the film rewind and the prism hou...

mx split image focus screen
Keep trying ebay, I've bought tons of film stuff in the past but if you just type in 'Pentax' then you'll have to wade through too much stuff. I've certainly seen MX screens for sale before. Unfortunately the split image collar/microprism screen was the standard one sold with the camera and therefor...
