Why did you buy a Pantax?
Don't forget the OM1 was actually pretty unremarkable spec-wise. CdS meter with needle readout. Fully manual. Not even multi coated lenses. It was successful beacaue of the power of advertising. And all those professionals who claimed to use it soon went back to their Nikons... The MX and ME were...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
It was of course the Olympus OM1 that inpsired Pentax to make the MX and ME. Yes, true, I'd forgotton about that, but Olympus got their own back as my OM30 was the Olympus' rip off of the ME F Pentax's first foray into the AF world. I never owned or used any of the OM AF lenses but having those thr...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
First time poster here. I've been a Pentax user for years - sort of. I got into photography whilst still at school at around 14 or 15 years old. My first camera was Praktica BCA which was AE only. I then added a BC1 body which taught me the essentials of using a manual camera. My firs...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
I bought a pentax courtesy of the often maligned people at Jessops. I had used 35mm compacts for many years and wanted to get into SLR. I had just recieved my yearly bonus and wandered in to the shop in Slough (next to Anne Summers  ) Explained the situation and the shop assistant directe...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
I kind of "grew into" Pentax through pfotography class back in -73 with a Spotmatic and I bought my KM in -75 for my first real sallory. I still have the KM and it works great. Thatīs why I always used Pentax through the years. Now, I have to admit I have a great affection to the Carl Z...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
Bought mine k100 D on recomendation from a guy who is chairman of an amature photography club. Never looked back and have upgraded to the K10 but kept the K100 D as a back up. I may purchase another camera in time just have to wait and see what Pentax comes out with in the next year or so. Im happy...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
About 1980 my father-in-law gave me his 1967 Spotmatic (which he found hard to work after smashing his arm in a car crash) together with some Tak lenses which I added to via eBay. I usually used slides and quite recently I bought a second Spottie so I could have 100 and 400 film available. A late...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
It started when I inherited my dads Ricoh KR5. I upgraded to XRP and XRX with some additional lenses but then work got in the way and photography was left behind. So when I retired and thought about getting back into it with digital I went for Pentax, so I could use my old lenses, having first m...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
For me, it was a purely accidental discovery....which kinda began last July (I'm afraid I cannot compete with you all here on your loyalty to Pentax spanning decades!). There is a bit of a story here; so appologies for the length.... I've always been very creative - designing things, sketching, c...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
Well it all started for me when my mum got an Olympus AZ-300 Superzoom 'compact' 35mm in the late 80's. I enjoyed using that at airshows and on holiday. A few years later I bought a Praktica MTL5 for about Ģ25, got myself a few lenses and really caught the bug. After a couple of years with th...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
Doesn't mean anything Mike. I came back to Pentax about 2 1/5 years ago but don't visit the forum for months at a time. It's a good source of info but (no offense to the guys who run it) it doesn't have the 'homey' feel that other forums have to my mind.

Why did you buy a Pantax?
I started my second passion with photography when affordable digital cameras appeared. After extencive study I bought Panasonic Fz10 on that day when it appeared for sale on BHphoto.com I was so avid Panasonic superzoom shooter. And even rather successful - pic of week at Photo.net, couple of lo...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
The bloke who ran the now sadly defunct camera stall at Harlow market sold me an MX for my trip to Australia. It was pretty tatty, not the easiest for the novice to use, the lens was a ropey push-pull zoom but the viewfinder was a joy and the thing was bombproof. I bought an MZ-50 in Singapo...

Multi or single point focus?
What do you use/prefer? My first impressions of my DS2's focussing is that it's somewhat slow. The multi-point focussing seems to hesitate before it decides. Intuatively, I think single point might suit me better. What do you use most? John

Multi or single point focus?
Centre-spot focusing always. I tried letting the camera decide for about 5 seconds before making the switch! It can't know what I'm wanting to focus on, so I decide by focusing, locking the point with a slight depress of the shutter release and then re-composing as desired before taking the picture.

Multi or single point focus?
I only ever use the centre-spot for focussing. I can see little point in multi-point focus where the camera decides which focus point it is going to use. It can't possibly know which point in the image I want to focus on and can sometimes ruin an otherwise perfectly good image. I am a firm suppor...

Multi or single point focus?
I curse the choice of focus points, because sometimes you can inadvertently switch to auto. G

Multi or single point focus?
Depends on the photograph, but I use multi-focus points more, especially in low light. However, I've got the setting to switch to single at a touch of a button.

Multi or single point focus?
Personally I always use centre focus only. But you have to train yourself to use it well... and I turn off the "focus-on-half-press". That way, especially in low light, I: * point the very centre of the viewfinder at something with contrast (eye balls for portraits) * press the "...

Multi or single point focus?
I tend to use manual selection of focus point. That way you can track subject movement without having to recompose. There is also some doubt that focus-recompose works when close to the subject using a wide aperture: http://www.outbackphoto.com/workshop/phototechnique/essay06/essay.html Che...
