Pentax Super A, focusing screen
Hi everybody, my Pentax Super A has the focusing screen damaged. In the past, I tryied to cleen the screen using alcool. Now the pictures are taken well but it's hard to focus since I see "clouds". I have contacted the Italian Official Technical Support but they told me it's impossible...

Which older Pentax film camera?
I really like my SFX and SFXn. Solid, reliable, big and chunky and their original lenses are 100% compatible with digital Pentax SLRs... I have both and agree completely. The AF is perfectly adequate for most situations but the centre-weighted metering leaves a little to be desired - but the same ...

Which older Pentax film camera?
In most respects, the SFX is a Super A with built-in flash, motorwind and auto-focus and is an excellent low priced general use film camera. Comparing an SFX to a Super A is like comparing a mule to a thoroughbred. Both good at their jobs, but only one is beautiful. But strong as a mule the SFX ...

Which older Pentax film camera?
Many thanks for all your suggestions and thoughts, folks. I think I might pass on the gravel and sticky-back plastic idea and buy two or three of the suggested models on eBay, see what suits me and sell the rest back again. I'm not 100% convinced that the cost arguments for digital SLR would...

Which older Pentax film camera?
The MX and K1000 are very well known and as we know, real work horses, but the KM is also a fully mechanical camera. I bought mine back in 1975 when it first came on the market and I still have it. I just felt I had to recommend it.

Which older Pentax film camera?
The Pentax MZ5 or MZ5n are superb modern Auto Focus Film SLRs with accurate metering, easy controls (like an old Manual Camera) and TTL flash metering. I think the MX is a great manual classic but it is out performed by the MZ5 or MZ5n. Also consider a MZ6 or MZ7.

Which older Pentax film camera?
I have at least one example of every series (note series not model) of Pentax SLR since the K1000, and I can honistly say they are ALL superb. You actually can't go wrong. Overall if I had to pick one, I'd go for the ME-F. An ME-Super with focus confirmation (technically it has AF, but it only...

Which older Pentax film camera?
The MEF lenses are unbelievably slow. They are also very cumbersome with the batery compatment for 4xAAA. About the only nice thing I can say about them is that they are a constant f2.8 and perform reasonably well. Somehow I managed to aquire 2 and haven't the gall to sell one of them Kim If anyb...

Which older Pentax film camera?
I always found the focus indicators in my SFX very useful with manual lenses. Mind you, only really useful with lenses that focus in the same direction as Pentax ones!

Why did you buy a Pantax?
WHy did I buy a Pentax? SImple - the guy in the shop recommended it to me!. Driving Route 66 a few years ago we stopped at a camera shop in Alberquerque to my son's 21st birthday present - he wanted an SLR. Well we had looked at Canons etc before so that is what we asked for - and he said Why? Have...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
My first SLR was an ME Super SE with a 45° split screen which was a beautiful camera. I got it when my first son was born, in 1979 or soon thereafter and got to know it backwards and loved using it. A great, simple to use camera with excellent lenses. I think I had a 50mm/1.7 standard, a 135mm portr...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
Some time ago, my wife worked for a photo supply house that also had a big rental division (before the days of video). The deal was, if there was equipment available on the weekends, employees were welcome to use it, gratis. So, we often had the k1000's out to play with. When it came time to in...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
My first camera was a Pentax ME which I traded in for a Pentax ME Super. Some time later I bought a Pentax K1000. The last film SLR I bought was a MZ5 N. For me Pentax is lightweight and innovative. But in 2004 I bought a DSLR. The Pentax istD was twice as expensive as the Canon 300D. So I bought...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
The only problem I have is getting lenses for it, particularly in the 300mm range. The latest lens roadmap from Pentax shows a 300mm lens next year. It is likely to feature the new internal focussing motor. This may cause some people to upgrade from their present F or FA 300mm 1:4.5 lenses, whic...

Why did you buy a Pantax?
I started out with a Pentax S1a which I borrowed from my Dad when I was about 10. For me, everything "clicked" and I got some great shots. Saved and saved and got a Zenit TTL and a couple of lenses, then eventually managed to buy my own S1a with 50mm/f1.4 lens. From there I progressed to t...
