Extension Rings
I have found that with macro work you really need to use manual focus because of the very small DOF, and this especially applies when using extension tubes or eversing rings (and if using a reversing ring there is NO way AF can work!) I have only used AF when using my 70-300 sigma which has a macro...

28-300 Lense
I've seen Pentax, Tamron & Sigma 28-200mm AF lenses on E-Bay which one has the better spec The Tamron and Pentax are more or less the same lens and both are better than the Sigma. The later Tamron models might perform slightly better than the Pentax (closer focus etc) but I doubt there will be ...

28-300 Lense
a pentax 28-200, and sigma 400 served me VERY well on my mz5 for many years...and have recently been brought out of retirement for use on my ist ds2. so I'd say yeah...but a couple primes may come in handy. I always had a 50mm, 28mm, 85 soft focus and 28-70f4 on hand...never know when you'll want/...

28-300 Lense
So would it be worth me to ditch the 28-90 & 100-300 and get a 28-200 and think about a bigger lense later on. Or keep 28-90 and ditch the 100-300 and get a 28-320 I think a 28-200 and a 400mm F5.6 would be a more useful combination that the lenses you've currently got. You could also add cheap ...

B&W development
Can anyone recommend a mail order place for B&W developing and printing? I've just had one back from Ilford and while the developing was fine the printing wasn't great. I've got a pro-lab I use locally when I want high-quality prints but I'd like to find a mail order place which is decent (quali...

50mm Lense
Just to clarify a terminology misunderstanding: The official designation on a lens is 1:1.2 1:1.4 1:1.7 1:2 1:2.8 Which correspond to maximum apertures of f1.2, f1.4, f1.7, f2 and f2.8 respectively. Many a time I've seen 1:2 lenses listed as f1.2, when they should be f2! A new f1.2 SMC-A ...

Return to film
Since getting my DS just before Christmas I hadn't used my film SLR's at all. A week or so back though I loaded up my Z1p with a roll of Delta 400 that had come free (plus cheap processing) with a copy of Amateur Photographer magazine. I bunged my on my trusty 20-35mm F2.8 plus Cokin red and ND g...

Desperate! Need an underwater housing
The SLR case on the aquapac website would seem to fit your job description Don, and at £80 of our english pounds doesn't seem too expensive. Just waiting for a guinea pig to try one out and report back! 8)

Desperate! Need an underwater housing
Just waiting for a guinea pig to try one out and report back! 8) I had an aquapac compact camera housing (more of a plastic bag than a housing really). It cracked and sprung a leak (in 10cm of water) the first time I used it. I don't think I'll be trusting my *istD to one. EWA-Marine do a simila...

Shutter Release cable
Remote turntable... Mmm, something to think about  The mouse was a regular visitor to the peanut feeder hanging on the end of the stick. Everytime he came out, he'd pause at this spot for a couple of seconds, then carry on for a snack. I'd had the idea of setting this shot up for a coup...

Shutter Release cable
Hi, are the extensions stereo or mono? the stereo one (which is what you need) will have two insulating bands around the male jack, as there are three wires (left, right, and common) these are needed for half depress for focus, full depress for shutter release and again a common. If you only ...

Shutter Release cable
I'm after a shutter cable or a remote for my MZ6 i ordered a pentax one from Amazon but they have delayed the delivery until mid August and i've been waiting 3 weeks already so i've cancelled it. So what i want to know is has anyone bought any of the other brands from E-Bay. I've seen a few from Ch...

Shutter Release cable
Richard Tonight I was doing research to verify my assumption that the MZ6 cable switch was the same for all the MZ series cameras. Of course...it is not. Sorry for all that irrelevant information in my last post. I did however find mention that the cable switch for the canon...

Lense Confusion
Hi I've just purchased a Pentax FA 80-320 Lense from a guy on E-Bay Who reasured me that it was O.K. But i am a bit confused as i understood that this type of lense was Auto Focus but it does'nt. It seems to have the AF coupler on it but i can only use it in manual. I'm using it on a Pentax MZ6

Lense Confusion
I don't know this particular lens, but on some FA zooms you push the focus ring forward or back to switch between AF and MF. I thought my first FA zoom was faulty, too, until I discovered this. G

Lense Confusion
Yes, I have this lens too and it's fully AF. Check that you have the camera's AF/MF switch in the AF position! If it was already in the AF position, switch it to MF and check that you can manually focus. The autofocus mechanism in Pentax cameras is a mechanical linkage between the body and the l...

Lense Confusion
Have you tried cleaning the electrical contacts? My preferred method is with a soft cloth with about one drop of WD40. Don't overdo the cleaning or touch the rear lens with the cloth and leave it for a while before refitting it to the camera. Finally, try turning the AF coupling of the lens with ...

Lense Confusion
I've given the contacts a clean with a soft cloth (not sure about WD40). The AF coupler turns ok when lense is dismantled and i turn the focusig ring. I just don't understand why there is no F stop reading in the view finder when set in any mode. I must say though that when i did give the contacts...

Lense Confusion
You haven't said what your other lenses are but if they are Pentax AF lenses and they work in all respects on your camera, I think it reasonable to assume that the 80-320mm is faulty in more ways than one. You will only really know by trying another sample or trying the lens you have on another Pent...

Lense Confusion
The guy has finally contacted me and things look promising in getting money back. Now i'm going to have to start looking for another one. I would like to thank all of you who replied to me with your help and advice. Richard
