Move to Digital?
Cheers George, that was good enough for me.. I'm now a proud owner of a *isd DL.. Not had much of a chance to take photos, just a quick outing on Sunday but it was getting dark and cold ( ). So far I'm impressed with the ease of use and quality of picture. I just love the fact that you can snap awar...

Will my Pentax LX lenses work with the *ist DS2?
Yes, within the limitations of each lens. This has been covered in various threads already, but in essence you will get fuller compatibility if the lenses have an "A" setting, which is required for many of the exposure modes. Lenses without an "A" setting can still be used, but only by manually c...

Centon bargains at Jessops
I find the K200 and K400 a little too large, but I have my faithful K100 which has taken over duties 'til the ME Super is back from camera hospital. Anyway, to the point, Jessops are selling new K200 bodies for £35 and the bloke said all their Centon cameras are at least 50% too. Something to ...

Centon bargains at Jessops
I'd still rather have a second hand Pentax - there are so many good ones around I don't think we'll have a problem getting one to use in any reasonable forseeable future...(Check back in 100 years or so...)

Centon bargains at Jessops
Eight month report on the K200 I bought back in September 2005. I only ended up paying £14.99 for the body and I've been using it with a 50mm/1.7 Pentax-M and a Centon of the same. As the camera came with a two-year warranty I decided to be as horrible to is as possible. So it's been everywher...

lens stuck...
Hi, Without seeing the camera or even a picture of it, it is difficult ot give positive advice. However, whatever you do, do not use WD40!! This is designed to spread and will get in all sorts of places you definately don't want it. Are you sure you are using the right button to release the lens. Y...

P30N and MX
My son has been doing an AS level photography course using my old Pentax MX. The exposure metering has now given up the ghost so we have acquired a second hand P30N, which means we can use the lenses we have. Unfortunately this seems to rely on DX coded film (camera didn't come with a manual). Does ...

DS focusing screen
Hi again! Some of you may have read the thread about my new K-mount Revueflex AC3 body. What brings me here is it's focusing screen. I have quite a significant number of manual focus lenses. All of my primes are manual focus, in fact. I love them, but I wear glasses, and focusing manually is n...

DS focusing screen
That brings me to my questions: is there any focusing screen like the AC3's for my DS? If so, where can I get it? Katz Eye Optics have just released a split prism screen for the Pentax *istD Series: http://www.katzeyeoptics.com It's a bit expensive at $100 + postage, but I ordered one of...

DS focusing screen
There are some SLRs with superb screens, but mostly manual focus models. The effects described such as the "pixellation" (not a word used when screens like that were standard) are the microprism spot, very familiar to Spotmatic users. The split image screen was widely use from the ME Super ser...

DS focusing screen
John and Mike, thanks for the info! And Mike, please report back! The Katz screen seems very nice, with both the microprism collar and split-screen aids. Will you install it yourself? Although I would really like to have such a screen, I'm a bit afraid of what it might do to the autofocus and met...

DS focusing screen
A focusing screen is a pice of optically flat ground glass onto which the lens projects its image. In more modern terms, it is a pice of plastic doing the same job, but shaped on the underside with concentric lines that are called a fresnel lens that makes the illumination much more even. Then fo...

DS focusing screen
The screen has arrived now :-) Unfortunately I had to pay VAT and a "customs clearance charge", so the whole thing has worked out to be quite expensive. Last night my wife was giving me grief over the cost of this small piece of plastic ("What is it for anyway?"), particularly as she had to pay t...

DS focusing screen
Hmmm. I've been thinking of going down this route for my istDL, but I really can't afford the Katzeye version. What are the pitfalls for installing one of these myself? Can I go wrong and how much damage can I expect if I do. Does it badly affect image through the viewfinder? I've read it can da...

DS focusing screen
Be very, very careful with the cheap ebay screens. Mine turned out to be too thick to work properly and while fiddling around trying to swap it my original screen got scratched. I'm now waiting for SRS to get back to me about a replacement original screen and suspect it will not be cheap. The re...

DS focusing screen
Turns out I was a bit hasty in rubbishing my ebay screen. I'd installed it back to front... The little tab was supposed to go on the right, not the left as with the original. Unfortunately I can't edit my original comment, but it seems to be working now. It's a bit darker than the original screen...

Time Exposures using *istD
I have a *istD with which I am pleased. Firmware has been upgraded to v1.12. Can anybody advise on a strange problem wrt time exposures? After doing a long exposure (including from 30 seconds to 5 minutes), the camera then seems to spend almost exactly the same time doing 'internal processing' (s...

Time Exposures using *istD
Many thanks Guys. I did wonder about the possibility of a noise reduction process. I'll experiment with turning off in-camera noise reduction. I was using the 200 ASA setting, so perhaps noise might not be too much of a problem. My interest in long exposures does relate to astrophotography. I'...

Time Exposures using *istD
I've done some tests re 'noise reduction' versus 'no noise reduction' on the *istD. Results are as follows: 'no noise reduction' eliminates the 'processing time' that I queried in my earlier posting. ASA/TIME/noise reduction/Result 200/30sec/off/OK 200/5min/off/very noisy 200/15min/off/bad...
