Encounter with the cops and a grilling by them

Why not wear a Hi-viz vest in these situations. No stalker in their right mind is going to wear a bright yellow or orange vest with scotchbrite stripes all over it and if you make yourself look that obvious, nosey parkers are less likely to call in the law. Amin, stop beating yourself up about it...

Encounter with the cops and a grilling by them

That's got to be one helluva pervert to have a bridge fetish! :D:D Seriously though, I would not have been able to keep quiet, and I would have said something back. Wether or not it would be repeatable here, I will only find out when something plainly silly like this happens to me. The only ti...

Encounter with the cops and a grilling by them

Well, I've got to admit that this sort of thing now plays on my mind. I spent a glorious day in a large park in Chester yesterday. We were with a group of about 8 families so there were many children with us. I was photographing them, amongst them my own children, but in the back of my mind I was...

Encounter with the cops and a grilling by them

Amin, in subordinating ourselves within a modern democratic society based on laws and regulation we by necessity relinquish a portion of our personal freedom for the greater good. The reason for this is that while freedom as a general concept is a good thing, a situation where individuals have un...

Encounter with the cops and a grilling by them

In a less extreme example my freedom to drive home drunk from the pub potentially infringes on other drivers' freedom to use the roads enjoying a minimum standard of safety. This is what is known as the paradox of freedom in that freedom always involves trade-offs in real-world society. I...

Encounter with the cops and a grilling by them

I've just had a stroll in the garden and I'm going back with my camera. May I recommend finding some cobwebs with dew still on them and also a lensbaby which I suspect with your persistence would deliver good results. If I wasn't waiting for a call I'd probably go for a walk round the wheat field...

Pentax O-ME53 Magnifying Eyecup

I use the Pentax O-ME53 and wouldn't go back to the standard Eyecup. I don't wear glasses when photographing and haven't had any problems with it fogging up, it must be your hot steamy breath Matt  Its always on the camera and great for manual focusing when doing macro The KPS eyecup lo...

Arca-Swiss compatible ball heads

Does anyone know of a cheapo ball head which is compatible with the Arca-Swiss system? I want to get a monopod. I currently have a ball head (from Markins) on my tripod and use an Arca-Swiss type QR plate on the camera and Bigma. I don't want to keep moving the ball head from the tripod to the...

USB Storage with DSLR

Hi Stefan There are devices which can connect 2 USB storage devices back to back in order to copy from one to the other. An example of this may be found on One device could be your camera and the other a USB memory stick or even a USB hard drive. Of course while the transfer is happening you...

USB Storage with DSLR

I wonder again: why can't I plug an ordinary hard drive into my network router at home? Well, that's an easy one. A hard drive is just a stupid hard drive. A NAS is a full computer with its own operating system and knowledge of interfaces needed to communicate with hard drives. It's smart. Those sma...

Forum change...........??

Could be I missed something, but suddenly I noticed the option to delete or edit posts has disappeared as a option. And I mean the structural option to do so, even after hours, day's or weeks. Now as it seems you only have a window of about 20 minutes. Please don't tell me it has been turned ba...

Forum change...........??

OK,John. Personally I am not happy with the decision. But.....As we have had this discussion earlier and as a result of that a try-out was introduced I'll reckon the staff had valid reasons to intervene and turn it back. So lets move on, and try to be even more careful when typing. Martin.

Forum change...........??

TBH, I have no problem with this change. Yes, I'd like to go back and edit typing errors from time to time on other forums, but if you feel the need to change the actual content, then you shouldn't have posted it in the first place ;) A forum is a repository as much as a 'live' discussion, and I ...

Photographer documentaries tonight on BBC4

Linda McCartney was an OK photographer IMHO but probably no better than many a 'rock' photographer who had the right access to the stars, however Annie Liebowitz's (sp.?) work really shone through last night. After watching last night I felt this sudden urge to sell my newly acquired digital equi...

Photographer documentaries tonight on BBC4

truly great B&W nearly always had blown highlights Not at all. There is no need to have blown out highlights if you expose and process your film correctly and take full advantage of the skills available in the darkroom. It's pretty much the same in Photoshop, which mimics the darkroom practice. ...

Photographer documentaries tonight on BBC4

Yes, so did I, very nice film. I did try the GAF 500 as well, but looking back at it I was stabbing in the dark and shooting pictures that weren't really suitable.

RIP Michael Jackson

Whilst his music never did anything for me it is always a tragedy when someone dies at such a relatively young age. I do not however understand the mass outpourings of grief for him, any more than I did when Princess Diana died. How can you grieve so for someone you never personally knew? A feel...

Sometimes they look soft

Both the images need a small aperture to ensure sharpness from front to back. I'm not sure what you are doing in terms of settings but what I would do is set a smallish aperture of say f11 or f16 and focus one third of the way into the scene. In picture 2 that would be at a point between the two flo...

Sometimes they look soft

Thanks John for your input I normaly set the camera on auto mode and then veiw the histogram and look at the photo. I then play arouond in manual mode around the settings the camera has read in auto mode. I have never used a tripod in this park as there can be lots of people buzzing around and also...
