Hmmm. I've been thinking of going down this route for my istDL, but I really can't afford the Katzeye version.

What are the pitfalls for installing one of these myself? Can I go wrong and how much damage can I expect if I do.
Does it badly affect image through the viewfinder? I've read it can darken the image. Can it also affect auto focus?

Be very, very careful with the cheap ebay screens. Mine turned out to be too thick to work properly and while fiddling around trying to swap it my original screen got scratched. I'm now waiting for SRS to get back to me about a replacement original screen and suspect it will not be cheap.

The replacement didn't affect auto focus, the exposure seemed a bit dark but that was indoors. The main problem was that when I focussed correctly according to the screen it was about 20cm off actual focus, and as the screen was thicker than the original nothing can be done with shims.

Thanks Matt.
I think I'll leave it as Pentax designed it.

Just picked up my Katz-eye screen for my K20D today from a forum member. I have one word to say on the matter: BLISS! I should have bought one ages ago. K.

Turns out I was a bit hasty in rubbishing my ebay screen. I'd installed it back to front...

The little tab was supposed to go on the right, not the left as with the original. Unfortunately I can't edit my original comment, but it seems to be working now. It's a bit darker than the original screen but the split prism more than makes up for that. I need to do more testing but it doesn't seem to have had much effect on metering.
