Pentax MX numbers - how many produced?

John, this is good news. I have my MX just a year (bought from 1st hand, female, looks not much used). In 1981 I hadn't the curage to buy a MX instead of an ME super... longevity neither the MX nor the LX have best reputation here. Maybe because some photographs with big fingers just don't have trus...

ist digital

Just exactly what planet are Pentax designers on. They seem to be changing their designs as fast as software developers produce service packs. Why bother, they will soon have 3 digital cameras in their line-up, and it takes almost an expert to spot the differences. Do they actually call this develop...

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 verus Sigma 170-500mm f4.5-5.6

John is right. The 70-200/f2.8 is an EX Sigma, while the 170-500 is just APO. Additionally the 70-200 has internal focussing, which is important for action shots. All the EX models are solidly built, and designed for pro use. For real telephoto, the 100-300 EX is well reputed. There's also a 1.4...

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 verus Sigma 170-500mm f4.5-5.6

For the record the 170-500 is internal focus also.

Spotmatic F Body

OK, I've just had my second dissapointment from eBay. Over the past year I've purchased a beautiful Spotmatic and a Spotmatic II. Both are being tuned-up by Eric Hendrickson as I write this. I thought I'd look for an "F" while I waited for the old girls to find there way back from Tennessee, and b...

SLR Mirror Size and Rambles

Hi Mac, The X as you put it will also depend on aperture and focal length. The full mirror may only be needed for a 1.4 Tak. Most light diagrams are shown as an X for simplicity but the real picture is a bit more complicated. If the only problem with the F is the mirror, I wouldn't mess too much...

SLR Mirror Size and Rambles

Gluing on a mirror fragment is a no-no. I think the only way - if one cannot use the proper clips to hold the mirror to the door, would be a spray adhesive which leaves virtually no build-up. It is amazing how out-of-focus the F became with just a smushed dab of glue stick goop twixt mirror fragm...

ME and MX

If you come across a Pentax 'Super Program' its the US version of the Super A (no ME prefix). A brilliant piece of kit and my introduction to Pentax back in 1983 when I bought mine. Happy days . . . we are now sadly parted

ME and MX

Ain't life grand? The problem with developing an obsession with gear is that it starts off gently, bidding for a nice 1.4 Super Tak for $25, and then, before you know it, your horizons have expanded and you are telling yourself that you can afford to spend a grand or more on a 200mm macro. By ...

Not sure if my *ist DL AWB is working correctly

Hello all :) I've recently received my *ist DL back from Pentax; it was sent off for a repair as the camera wasn't using the batteries properly (seems to be okay now). Whilst taking some test shots the other night I noticed that using AWB in my tungsten lit bedroom gave very yellowish results....

How do I fix the "Sticky Mirror"

The headline says it. Both my LX:s has developed sticky mirror of the first variety: Sticks in down position if the camera has not been fired for a while. Also, the focus creep. Can I fix this myself? Is there a handy web page showing me how? Or should I leave it for the trained professionals. Gu...

How do I fix the "Sticky Mirror"

Can you elaborate on the "focus creep"? Dave

How do I fix the "Sticky Mirror"

The supportive cushions that stops the mirror in down position has deteriorated and gotten sticky with age. This makes the mirror stick in down position if the camera hasn't been fired for a while. The focus creep appears when the mirror come to rest in a slightly lower position than intended, thus...

Mysterious spots

This I take it is not unusual. On certain shots I see spots on the photos. This tends to be on lowershutter speeds or on AP, and possibly SP, setting. :( :? What I can't understand is that it's not every shot this happens. I have a fried who has a D50 Nikon. It's been sent back to ge...

Media for new Pentax digital SLR's

I think to be fair Pentax have preserved a huge amount of backwards compatibility with all their SLR cameras. After all, you could still conceivably use an Asahiflex lens on the current DSLRs, albeit with a couple of adapters to achieve it. 42mm screww thread lenses can be used with the K mount adap...

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 verus Sigma 50-500mm ..??

I've purchased recently a lens in this zoom range: a Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm F/3.5. Manual focus and stop-down metering since it's quite old. This lens is touted as a legendary lens by many, and although I haven't had time to try it out decently, my first shots reveal very pretty bokeh, good sh...

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 verus Sigma 50-500mm ..??

I had one of these a long, long time ago....It is capable of very good results, but is massively heavy and not really made to the same standards as Pentax lenses. However, well worth having a try with. There are a few older manual focus lenses that are also "legendary" and these include: Elicar 9...

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 verus Sigma 50-500mm ..??

John, There were no fewer than five different versions of the old Vivitar Series One 70-210 lens. The first three versions were superb. I was lucky enough to get hold of what many regard as the best - made by Komine- for not much money. http://www.robertstech.com/vivitar.htm In my subject...

Super A - Seals disintegrating

Hi, does anybody know how easy or difficult it is to replace the back seals and mirror buffer (the foam pad) in a Super A, and if they are easily replaceable, where can I buy them from ? Are there any other foam components that I can't see that may (probably do) need replacing? I've had a q...

Super A - Seals disintegrating

Great guy - wish he sold other stuff as well. Very occassionaly he does :) I bought a Ricoh SLR body from one of his Interslice auctions (solid PK mount back up with access to a full range of mechanical speeds) and needless to say the light sealing and mirror bumper were all in superb condition!
