Pentax Vs Canon & Nikon

I was shooting red kites (with my camera) at the red kite centre in wales recently. There were several Canikon 'togs there too, and as far as I could tell we were ALL using manual focus.

The Gallery

Chris A : How DO you link the Pentax User ID to the Forum then? I had a look at my Settings etc. but could not see any 'buttons'to link. Good question. Now that I've done it, the link is gone. And I can't remember offhand exactly where it was. It wasn't hard to find - it didn't take me long to tr...

The Gallery

The one a day feature is to make sure that everyone gets a fair shot at exposure in the gallery. More weasel words (like the law you were too busy to remember). How does everyone get a "fair shot" when there are two different sets of rules? If you actually wanted EVERYBODY to have a "fair shot...

Rain Cover

I was in Scotland last year and it was not rain that was the problem for me but the cold humid air condensing on everything! Then the horizontal rain on top of that! I didn't open the waterproof compartment. The upper part of the bag had a raincover on it and was soaked through as it only prevented ...

Internet Anywhere

Usually when I go on holiday the Internet gets left behind, after Sue has dragged my fingernails from their grip on the PC anyway. This time I'd signed up to Internet Anywhere with Orange and the laptop has been live wherever we have been. Fantastic, it works. Using the mobile phone network, a...

Liam may well be back soon.. sort of.. hopefully.. :)

Hi all, just thought I'd put in an appearance. Been a while hasn't it. Well, a quick precis goes like so. In late March my Mum went into hospital, and apart from a couple of days back home in April, she never left, and sadly we lost her on 15th of July, 10 days after her 68th birthday. As you...

Liam may well be back soon.. sort of.. hopefully.. :)

My condolences too Liam. Although it is 20 years ago now I still remember what it is like - I spent the time from January to May travelling between Holland and the UK, so I completely understand. Take your time. I hope you will feel up to picking up your camera again sometime soon, and look forwa...

Italian for scrap yard

Ah Sicily and public transport - my son and his GF went a couple of years ago, and ended up hitch-hiking a lot, or being abandoned in a deserted village at siesta time as the bus didn't run then. Still they had a great time, even if they did come across bullet casings and a pool of blood near their ...

Count those milliseconds!

Whatever its speed, the K10D on the other hand is fast enough. The only point I was making was that what was once considered slow would now be considered fast, which I thought was interesting. It is interesting, but it's a consequence of the fact that there is enormously more for the camera to do be...

Count those milliseconds!

so the only delay was in the actual release mechanism. Ah, I was talking about the Compur-shutter SLRs and forgive me for not explaining a little further. A compur shutter is an iris like the one in every lens and while it is closed no light gets to the film. Of course no light would get to the...

Count those milliseconds!

The DOS based computers, even the first Windows machines, responded far quicker than the modern XP or Vista-equipped PCs, and with far less powerful processors. I would rather have the processor work for me than for Bill Gates and his horde of developers. Not sure you'd post-process many pictur...

Count those milliseconds!

Whilst we're sort of on the subject of how things have changed (generally for the better IMHO) the same Voigtlander Bessamatic had a superb series of lenses. But just imagine a 135mm lens than cannot focus closer than 13 feet....it was indeed a very different world for the photographer. Where ...

Camera Club Or Not

Early last Year i joined a camera club but but after a few months i noticed it being a bit clicky and the older members doing mostly what they wanted with mainly film and not Digital (I except that film is not dead). I found this quite annoying as they were'nt giving any new members who were into Di...
