Cameras we respect?

We seem to have two takes on this thread: cameras that influenced photography (one for the history buffs) and cameras that influenced us. In the former category would be things like the box brownie, the early Asahiflexes, the original Pentax (now known as the AP), the original Spotmatic, the Ni...

Cameras we respect?

I was given an old beat up film camera by my uncle when I was 11, cannot even remember the make, but this was the seed that later led me to buying an OM1N and then an OM2N. Had the OM2N for 25yrs and had a great collection of lenses for it too. But pressure on leisure time by a young family mean...

Cameras we respect?

We've had a similar discussion to this in another thread. Here goes with my fav. cameras. A Kodak Box Brownie my dad bought for when I was still at school; later a folding Kodak, I don't know what it was called. Then after years with no photography in my life I came back into it with - yes you've gu...

Vosonic VP5500

I've not used the VP 5500, but be wary of the build quality on Vosonic products. I had one of the older models without the colour screen. It did what it said on the tin for about 4 months then died unexpectedly. I opened the back to discover the HDD was held in place with nothing more than a piece o...

Vosonic VP5500

An update on the Vosonic VP5500 having just used it in earnest during a trip to Canada. BEWARE that the date attributed to the files is the date that they are stored on the unit and not the date the image was created. This causes problems if you then try to tie the images back to the itinerary...

Vosonic VP5500

Surely the image tank doesn't alter the date in the Exif though - thereby making it possible to relate the photo to the itinerary? And if you back up every day then the folder will have the correct date to further help. I shall stick to our old, screen free version - it reads anything - we used i...

The competition

When posted in a normal thread by hot linking, you can always kill it by deleting/or replacing it on the hosting site. It's a bit naff to have to do this though, isn't it? To replace a picture I post on a thread, hosted say in PhotoBucket, I have to - delete that picture - upload the new one ...

Alternative Web Browsers

I switched from Opera to Firefox when I got my new computer. I did so reluctantly as I like Opera, but the bill payer installed Firefox instead. Most websites work with Firefox, including my internet banking sites - which never worked with Opera. That is the only reason I'm glad I have FF now. I rea...

Norton AV 360

A few years back, Norton was just fine, but then it grew out of all proportions. When my computer showed significantly performance reduction, I switched to PCCillin from Trend Micro. This seems to work very well. A shame, really, because I sort of grew up with Norton tools (Disc Doctor, Norton Co...

Copyright Issue

My issue has gladly been promptly resolved by the website owner, just received this response (edited)... "After reading your pm, i have decided to remove the rotating banner images from the front page temporarily. Until i can find out who actually included your images on the site. When the rotati...

Pictures by unknown in the Gallery

There's always a coupon at the back of the magazine for you to send in with your entries on CD, slide or print. Nothing has changed in this respect and the new methods offered here are extra to the coventional ways to enter.

SRS save the day! Many thanks to Chris & team!

Well, where to start, the last 48 hours have been one amazing emotional roller coaster of a ride! Fiona was using the DA*16-50 on Thursday for more practice using the lens before the wedding this weekend. Complained that quite often, it would not lock on focus, so I tested it quickly, seemed to l...

Wedding shoot, what a stressful 48 hours!

Well, it's sure been an experience, and a wonderful example of, if it can go wrong, it will! After leaving work at 6.30PM and shooting out to buy a boot load of umbrellas, our roller coaster emotional experience started on early on Friday evening. After viewing the photos Fiona took whilst helpin...

Wedding shoot, what a stressful 48 hours!

I was working for a decent sized firm with 6 or seven photographers all shooting weddings. A guy on a motorbike would pick up your films halfway through to get them prooofed and back to the reception. It would be almost impossible now because clients want you to be there from start to finish and sho...

Selling Photographs

Sorry George I had the idea you were a pro. As to your points I’d broadly agree but perhaps put the following higher on the list for a sole trader at least: Being a self starter – no-one else is going to make you get up and go (apart from disgruntled clients kicking your backside) The ability...

Selling Photographs

When I was young I had a Leica and a Weston meter but as often as not I would have to guess the exposure to catch a street shot and you could get away with it a lot of the time. Digital I find far less forgiving and of course colour then was far less forgiving. I'd have no confidence now estimating ...

Selling Photographs

There is an old saying about photojournalism that it is 'F8 and be there' meaning you have to be technically competent and have a foot in the door. I've always interpreted that to mean that being in the right place at the right time is much more important than technical expertise. F8 means that t...

K20 focus adjustment chart

Did you print it out on A4 paper or A3:?: I haven't had the need to use it but printed it out on A4 and found it quite small and difficult to read. Or is it just my old eyes :?
