Wrong answer. It's FIAT: Fix It Again, Tony

I don't understand why you are all talking about car makers.
Perhaps we should talk about Football?

Sadly I never did get to use Nathan's excellent advice as I never got enough time to look for a scrap yard. I was relying on public transport assuming I'd get buses to the commercial parts of towns. Yeah right. It seems Sicily isn't strong on public transport. Mazara Del Vallo where we stayed is great but it has no buses at all. None. Just none although oddly it does have some bus stops. Other towns had a few buses but they weren't used much although I believe the coaches between large towns are good and as usual good value. The trains were in principle OK but erratic and we will certainly get a car when we visit again. Sicily is a lovely place and different to mainland Italy in many ways. Everyone was so friendly – the cop on the train we met greeted us next day when we saw him on the platform, same with the lady conductor who was worried we couldn’t actually buy a ticket for our return trip from the small station that had neither counter nor automated machine to sell tickets. I don’t think we met anyone who was less than totally helpful.
As for the part for the Piaggio – well I’ll have to go again. Which we will as we didn’t get to Palermo!

ahahahah
great news Mike!
I thought it was going to be something like this...
Anyway, how about a trip to Florence, as Piaggio is from pontedera, which is about 30 min from florence city centre...
Let me know if you go, I might have a special accomodation for you!
Cheers,
Nathan

Thanks Nathan - I have been to Florence and it was spectacular and a place I would visit again. It was part of the trip that opened my eyes to art. All those churches open to visit with such a range of art in them from quite mundane to the real masters. Oddly most churches in Sicily seemed to be locked for most of the day and shockingly had graffiti on the outside and even on the doors.

Ah Sicily and public transport - my son and his GF went a couple of years ago, and ended up hitch-hiking a lot, or being abandoned in a deserted village at siesta time as the bus didn't run then. Still they had a great time, even if they did come across bullet casings and a pool of blood near their campsite one morning .
Sounds like a great excuse to go back to Florence though- if you need an excuse that is!

I am off to Sicily for a week and I need a part for a Piaggio 3 wheeler which I'd like to get from a scrap yard/breakers yard but I can't trust the on line translation engines to translate this for me.
Anyone here know what the Italian is for scrap yard or breakers yard or I suppose Piaggio dismantlers yard?
Of course I then face the problem of communicating the part I want but I think arm waving, photographs and pointing will do it!
