SEXY!!
I want two...!!!! It looks good and it has the one main feature that I would sorely miss on lower end model, ie the front wheel. I guess it might not have a pentaprism and not all the direct access buttons but I'd take the hit on those for size and weight savings. Especially as a second/take everywhere camera that the K-01 does not seem to manage to be for me (yeap had another go while in Greece on a sunny day... it was a total no-go )

Just hope they stick with the 16MP flavoured sensors, not quite persuaded by the new 24MP sony varieties just yet. Too many pixels for what I need with somewhat compromised DR and high ISO performance.

Secondly, I have done the tests as people have suggested.
I when through the process of focusing at an angle of fine text, using AF Fine adjustment (not trusting the viewfinder), and achieved perfectly calibrated focus.
Or at least I thought I had. When I tried to autofocus on a spot further away it was way off focus. When I then calibrated the AF for the more distant object, the close focus was off - it's driving me mad.
I've got a fantastic, weatherproof, fast shooting high IQ camera that won't focus consistently.
Unfortunately some lenses will exhibit different AF results at different subject distances. Most of my lenses are OK for this, but I tend to calibrate AF at the nearer distances as that's where any inaccuracies tend to show up most in my experience
Cheers mate. Thank you.
If the AF problems are quite pronounced I'd sent the camera and/or lenses for calibration or ask for a replacement camera. If that does not fix it for you then try one of the latest gen M4/3s they are not that expensive and they all tend to have very similar AF performance. If it works then fine otherwise you can sell it with little loss or even keep it as a small portable alternative to your Pentax setup...

As I said I have no issues with the accuracy of the AF of my lenses, a couple were a bit off but were sorted with the micro AF adjustment and they are very sharp now.

I did compare it to the 17-50 which was a slow AF combo already... The 16-50 is faster but not by much when compared to the 50-135.

Accurate yes, focuses under plenty of near impossible circumstances yes, fast to AF? Absolutely not. The K-5 + 50-135 is lethargic compared to my D40+17-50 and it is light years behind the D40+35mm. And that is with static objects...

You say that it is important you don't need to have to swap a lens half way through the shoot but that is the zoom of a rather long zoom not a prime.

A prime is good if you go out with a specific type of photo or prepared to see the world a bit differently through the 'eye' of a fixed focal length.

400-500 shots per battery. Over 1k with the D7k that is quite a difference but the D7k does not have an IBIS and I never used it with a VR lens (never owned one) . Having said that the 50% reduction is quite a lot and I was hoping I'd get more like 600-700 shots per charge.

One of the very very few black spots on an otherwise fantastic camera which I have solved by purchasing a couple third party batteries.

I always assumed they were but it feels like there is only one.... John Riley forum is how I see this place as well, have been ever since I started posting here.

I actually like the less frantic nature of the forum compared to the more generic photography forums and I am rather content it is a Pentax User forum. That being said I do find the rule of 'do not mention other brands' applied with a fairly obvious bias.

It's bad enough comparing just Pentax stuff
There are just too many possible permutations if you start
bringing in other marques.... that's why it's better just
to confine this forum to Pentax gear, there are many other
sites for M4/3 etc.

There's even one site where you enter two cameras and it
lists good and bad points of both.
True, with brands and users that are secure enough in their products to allow comparisons and discussions about other cameras...

I have had a GX1 for a very short period of time and I have to say I was not impressed by the noise handling or the DR so it was sold. Not so sure how good is the EP-3. I am toying with the idea of a EM-5 but it is a lot of cash and a lot of replicated lenses to get it as a functional system (at least 14,20 and 45 primes plus the body and the grips).

So for the time being I have decided that K-5 with primes if I want to go "light" it is.

If either prices for the EM-5 fall, or more models are added to the line up they can be a very credible alternative to Pentax. You get better IBIS, even smaller bodies, a nice big viewfinder and some fantastic small, competitively priced primes. IQ is not quite K-5/D7k levels but only by a small amount and there are no fast zooms, (two Panasonic ones have been shown as "concepts") but it all comes down to how much those two disadvantages affect your photography and if you can swallow the rather high price of EM-5.
