Yes, you can see more detail in FF for the simple reason that there IS more detail. A big chunk of film always bettered a smaller chunk of film for purely physical reasons and nothing that I have seen leads me to think that sesors are any less susceptible to the same truth.

However, it does seem true that the better 'Full-frame' systems can now equal the smaller MF film formats in 'general' image quality,...although, as we are saying it's subjective at best and according to individual photographers and even, individual subjects and resulting prints.

This is interesting about different formats, although, yet again it's just one mans view albeit a world class pro photographer of 40 years experience;

....And yes, I always treat magazine reviews with extreme scepticism!

"...It shows what is possible now..."

I'm afraid it does not! What it shows is a set of data supplied by measurement against a piece of software. The software was devised by people who needed a set of criteria in order to compose this software. To mention just one defect; there is no mechanism there for comparing sensors despite some of them being nearly three times the physical size of the others.

Leaving out the software, this is just the same endeavour that has appeared in photographic publications since photography began. And, just like all the rest it is fatally flawed by the very criteria needed to make it 'possible'.

Unfortunately, the only way to decide which system is the best, is the same as it's always been, namely, to do your own set of measurements and comparisons on actual images with your own vital criteria overlaid and carefully considered.

Well pentax DID make 'full-frame' lenses for many years,...they had a better range of them than they do now for APS-C.....so, yes, it is at least possible.

If pentax did what it does best and started to think outside the box then maybe it could make a 'full-frame' type system with more adaptability than the others,..perhaps a unitary system with evf and better format choices,..maybe a method of keeping the camera in one shooting position for both vert. and horiz. shots,...perhaps a square sensor for the middle of full-frame lens coverage,...add the Zeiss glass from 'in house' to supplement pentax glass......

.....a lot of the more serious photographers and business users would be interested in a system like that,..I know I would be.

Pentax has to make a full-frame at some point if it wants to stay relevant to the hand camera market. Coloured plastic for the brainless masses will not save them.

Their problem is that the full-frame market is hotting up and getting cheaper, while pentax has doubled the price of it's topflight model,...so now, there is not much differential between their APS-C (k7) at £1000+ and some of the FF (Sony a850) at £1500. Just five hundred quid between an also ran APS and a 24 megpixel Full frame with superb image qulaity and Zeiss lens range, for pentax to exploit the market.....

Where is the side by side test of image quality that shows the M9 to be no better than the K7....? Perhaps you can supply a link please?

The Daily Mail claiming that consumers are ripped off by retailers only offering 12 months warranty when the EU legal requirement is 2 years,...we knew this already. However, please note the reference to a staggering 6 YEARS in England and Wales..??!!!

........remembering that this IS the Mail, so not the most reliable source.

".....I wonder if there is a dedicated Video Camera with interchangeable lenses for anything like the K7 price..."

...But then, the k7 is NOT a dedicated vid camera,..that's the whole point......it's a DSLR with crippled video capability.

".....don't think Pentax will succeed in the FF market, Sony is also struggling as well their..."

Is this true?

What exactly constitutes "struggling"...??

FF is arguably cutting edge for '35mm DSLRs' so pentax either joins the fight or turns it's face to the wall......there IS no in between ground.

"...K20D is becoming ever more appealing as prices head below £500..."

Is this true?......have k20 prices changed with the advent of k7?

Who is selling k20 below £500?
