I think pentax MUST make a 'FF' if they are to be taken seriously by photographers rather than camera users/consumers. The 'Toys-R-Us' stance that pentax has recently taken with kx & kr may be good for it's bean counters but it's a wrong turning as far as I'm concerned, and can only be seen as an attempt to 'dumb down' photography. Offering a mediocre standard lens after TEN YEARS and hoping for success becasue it's available in 20 colours does NOT hack it!
Pentax has shown brilliant inovation in the past and now is the time for a 'FF' system without mirror, but with a selection of viewfinders, including the best EVF available. With adaptors this system could be uysed with any lens system from 35mm and since pentax used to make a complete range of such lenses they still have the ability and maybe the infrastructure. A few of the current lenses can cover 'FF' too.
It's interesting to see the pendulum swing back once more to the argument about quality and what's 'good enough'......for older photographers this will srtike a chord as we can all remember the argument between 35mm users and medium format operators and those who tried to claim that the image quality was the same (in their dreams!) For medium format people like myself there is no real possibility of going digital and getting the same quality without either,.... remortgage to buy a digital back,..remortgage to buy a drum scanner,....or a life of stiching together files from a DSLR. ONLY a good 'FF' system will supply the quality we were used to at a manageable price.
Please don't think the 645D does this. That's a pathetic attempt by pentax to force it's way back into the MF world and is yesterday's technology with a small sensor added. IF they had put that sensor into a camera not much larger than k7 (which would have been possible for an enterprising and innovative camera maker) they would have had a massive winner which would have been unique. As it is there is the same annoying compromise of a 1.6X focal length factor as with APS sensors/35mm ...and the 645D is intended for pro users!! A fantastic opportunity lost!
So, if you are looking Mr Pentax, get your pencil out, find an old envelope, and get sketching......Please!

.....Like me, Kenny hates bullshit and the many people in photography who are 'up themselves' or too precious.
Here is his latest which seems to me to have much more than a grain of truth and to be particularly significant to this site,...enjoy, 'The Death Of Photography'....

..........Pentax should not make a 'FF' model because it would be more expensive than the APS models....
Or;
..........Pentax should not make a 'FF' model because it wont supply bigger image size than APS.....
Or;
..........Pentax should not make a 'FF' model because all the APS pentax users will feel their gear to be inferior.....
Or;
..........Pentax should not make a 'FF' model because most current users never make prints so can't work out why anyone else might want or need to.
Actually theres more thn a few people in this thread with too much "front".....
