I’m going on holiday to India in March next year – normally I would take my K20 and associated kit with me – but as we’re staying put in Goa for two weeks and not travelling around the country – I think the time has come to invest in a compact – Pentax of course. I have little or no experience here – a friend has a C**** G10 and I have to admit his results are pretty good. So, is there a comparable Pentax product? (I really don’t know about these things!). I would probably look for something second hand, but any advice on a compact Pentax would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Les

Just sped past 50. All the new gadgets designed to make lif easier seem to take forever to work out But the wife has arranged for me to drive a steam tarin for my birthday - so that should be simple enough

I would consider renting before deciding on a particularly expensive purchase.

One thing I’ve thought of often – however – is ‘rent a tripod’ in bigger towns or cities. Often I’ve travelled with the wife to exotic locations by train only to be told before we go ‘we’re not taking that with us!’

Hi Simon, great shot. I agree with Shim - I think there are issues with the K20D and shadow detail/exposure

Noce work Peter. I've visited Scotney a few times and got some good shots. Allways found the sky to be a problem there, must be the the local geography!

I can’t really remember why I bought my k1000 – in 1981 I think – but it got some heavy use! I still have it but the shutter’s a bit tired.

It was the sheer build quality of the old k1000 that meant when considering a DSLR there was no doubt in my mind about buying another Pentax. (The k1000 has been down a least one flights of stairs, and has got very wet on several occasions during its long career!)

I went for a k100d just because that was the limit of my budget, I still take the k100d out with me as a back-up body, but the sensor was irretrievably marked (only 2 tiny spots) while on a bus in Mauritius which filled up with hot steam!

I made the jump to my k20d last Christmas, and again it was build quality – and being able to use my older lenses – that reinforced my decision.

I have retired the k1000 now – it’s been replaced by – an MZ 7!
