Caught this very unexpected image at South Shields today. My knowledge of birds is quite scant so what is it please?

K5 18-135mm f8 1/160secs ISO 200

I bought the 150-500 OS from Cliff-p, he mentioned that he used the lens with both SR and OS left switched on and didn't see any noticable deteriation in the images and after testing I concurr so I just leave the OS in position 1 and SR on.
I'll try that next time, it can't make my shots (hand-held) with this lens any worse

I have heard that the navy used to use this as a signal; if a union flag was flown upside down it was a discreet signal that the ship was in distress. Don't know if that's true or not.
I believe it was the Red Ensign Merchant Navy, Blue Ensign if an RN officer was onboard and White Ensign Royal Navy only. This "flag" could not be misread as upside down no matter where it was viewed from.

Nice shots. I thought it was better to turn camera SR off when using OS on the lens?

Some good shots there. Loved the snap #5, of the the policeman and the "little schoolgirl" playing rock, paper, scissors

I always watch out for "inspirational" books in charity shops etc but they are very thin on the ground.

A friend once lent me a Leica M3, supposed to be the best camera ever made, but sadly I hated the thing. Dreadful viewfinder, heavy as a small car and nowhere near as good as an ME Super for actually taking photos.
But apart from all that it's still a Leica

If only my hands were steady enough to take shots like this I'm assuming this was through glass too ?
