Could it also be the camera profile in ACR?
ACR does not take the cameras own (Pentax) profile to adjust the RAW image by default, instead it uses an adobe one.
Guess a simple test could be to shoot raw+ and compare an unadjusted PEF file with the jpg.

I had a real problem with the colours looking very different in the preview and other raw viewers compared to ACR with raw files created by my K-r.

It might be worth checking out the defaults ACR is using and how it is configured.

I have shot some ice hockey from the edge of the rink. I have used a Tamron 70-300 f5.6 and a DA* 50-135 f2.8 on a K-r. I found the 70-300 to long at the wide end and struggled with light being f5.6.

Being out doors you might getaway with the 55-300mm, the 100-300 will be faster but I fear you will miss some of the action due to it not being wide enough. I don't think the 50-135 would be long enough for a football pitch either.

I find location data of other photographers shots incredibly useful for inspiration of locations. In addition I take a lot of bird photography, knowing exact locations will be a mixed blessing in this instance. Great for the likes of me to view and photograph rarities. Bad because the egg collectors will know exact locations. It would need to be used with care.

I find the idea of shifting the sensor to create an increased resolution a very interesting one. Though I think this coupled with the low noise capabilities of the K-5 and 300 second exposure will make for some nice stacked photos of deep space.

If you are happy with it, best value for money will come from the one you already own.

Reading between the lines, you want greater magnification than you have. The Bigmo also gets very good appraisal from users and if you are ok with 150mm at the wide end of the zoom is substantial lower in cost than the Bigma. That said looking at the photos you have posted, would you be better looking at a true macro lens?

I found the Tamron 70-300 needed to be stopped down a lot to get anything half decent. @300mm I was finding my copy needed to be stopped down to f11 to get the best of it.

I don't think you should avoid or select a lens based on cost alone. If you get the right one first time it could well be cheaper than buying several lens until you are settled on the right one for you.

I have recently purchased the Sigma 50-500mm (HSM OS version). It has no issue with focus on my K-r. Its heaver and slower(aperture) than the 135-400mm though I still tend to hand hold the lens. the OS is stunningly effective on the 50-500 far better than the in-body option.

Simply put I have found it to be a stunning a replacement for my 70-300. But surprisingly I am using it in areas I had not planed. Focus is fast accurate and almost silent with HSM. Its tack sharp from f8 and the quick shift style focus is bonus on the odd occasion its locks in the wrong af point.

Have you also considered the Pentax 55-300 or the 150-500mm 120-400mm HSM OS sigma offerings? what is you intended use for the lens?

Could well be worth ringing SRS and asking if they would do a discount on hiring both body's a week to help you decide or if they would they discount the one you decide to buy. Worst that can happen is the say no.

for my 2p worth. I own K-r, I have no regrets with my choice.

Have you checked your bill vs the receipt?
My recent purchase showed postage on the receipt but I was not charged for it.
My on-line SRS account also showed 0.00 P&P in addition to the CC Bill being for the correct amount.

I suspect they have a new system that may need a little tweaking.

Pixlr is a useful jpg editor if you are away from your own PC. No install is needed as it is web based and interface is very like Photoshop.

seen more Pentax cameras out and about in the past year than I have in the 5 years previous. Looks like it might be paying off for Pentax getting back in to the likes of Curry's etc.
