(PS At the end, when it said complete, the orange light kept flicking on and off - not what it said on the website. In the end I just switched the camera off and on again and it worked!)

Since getting the GX20 (which only saves DNG), I use the converter that came with it, which is a re-branded Silkypix 3. Before that I was using the ACR (latest version, can't remember exactly what) and the difference blew me away! Silkypix seemed to cope so much better with sharpness, colour, noise, CA etc.

For a free converter, I would certainly recommend RawTherapee. Early versions were a dog's-dinner, but the interface is now very clean and easily compares with ACR.

One downside, though, that you should consider is workflow. ACR's linking into bridge and photoshop made a smooth experience. Silkypix offers rudimentary image management, meaning bridge is still needed for organising; and if you want to do further work in a photo-editing programme, you have to save a TIFF and then open from, say, photoshop.

Was it killed for the purpose of photography? I had assumed that the purpose was getting rid of a pest (which I've also had to do in the past) and the photo was a side-effect. Perhaps we can be enlightened...

Very good. On the technical side, maybe crop a bit to get the sole highlight out of the top, it distracts the eye. For the subject, this confronts nicely the cuteness with which so many like to view nature against the harsh reality. I bet he went with less suffering than most cattle destined for McDonalds - at least he was in "heaven" whilst it happened!

On a serious note, I actually thought George's opener was a good, reasoned argument and I think the result has been a general view that politeness, respect and thoughtfulness should be on the mind of all posters, whilst not getting anal about sticking to pure and precise English, Elizabethan or otherwise. Or sentences with too many commas. (Though I will miss a certain poster's more extreme outbursts - beats Corrie anyway!!)

As the proud spotter of the J*****s grip, I would certainly support a separate section.

Henri - I've two young kids and one thing you can be sure of, they move around a lot. If you shoot Av, then you'll find the camera often keeps the speed down as low as 1/50th to maintain a low ISO. This can lead to a lot of motion blur (as in your last photo, bottom right). Fine if you want it, but I've taken to using TAv, which lets you set the aperture AND speed - the camera adjusts ISO. Bit more tricky, as you've got to keep more of an eye on things and tweak speed if necessary, but I find this gives me the ability to play with depth of field, without worrying about motion blur.
