The reader claims to be OTG compatible so maybe it's faulty. It's going back...

The reader, when connected to my iMac works straight off, so either the MicroSD end of the reader (it's double ended) is faulty or there is some other reason. I am going to give up on trying to use the tablet.

Has anyone had any success connecting an SD card to a Samsung Galaxy Tablet so that images can be viewed? I want to do this so that I can check I haven't picked up dust on the sensor. The frustration of being away on holiday and then getting back with thousands of images, only to notice a dust speck is pretty annoying. Seeing as I am travelling with a good tablet I thought I could connect the card via a MicroSD reader. This is the one I got.. Trouble is, the tablet just does not see the SD card? Do you think it's the format of the card? Using a Pentax K3ii and a Sandisk 32gb card
Check your nuts

I think when you put it together again you should use spring washers or nuts with a nylon locking strip in them. Just the thoughts of a retired engineer. CHEERS Vic.That's what I thought. I am surprised they don't do it in the factory. Other than that, I have been very pleased with my Vanguard. I have had the metal version and now have the carbon fibre version. Only 200 grammes difference. Somehow I actually preferred the metal version. My father in law fixed it so it should be fine.

Surely they should be able to use some sort of lock nut? Seems pretty poor to me as the rest of the tripod seems very well made (made in Myanmar amazingly).

So I got my Vanguard VEO 265AB tripod out to check all is well for my upcoming trip to South Africa and, as I got it out of the bag, one of the nuts that holds one of the legs to the head fell off with its washer! Incredibly I noticed that one of the other bolts had already lost its nut. Where this has gone I will never know. Only one leg was actually held on! Just shows the importance of checking the tightness of your nuts and the importance of checking gear before heading out.
Laptop specs - upgrade????

Just out of interest I timed my work Macbook to export a 32meg DNG file to full size JPEG at the highest quality setting with no sharpening. Two seconds. It's the latest spec but does cost 3.5K. If I fire up my 2011 iMac it takes eight seconds (uses a non SSD drive) Your times seem way too high to me. On a separate note Grumpy, do you not shoot as DNG? Are you shooting as PEF and the converting to DNG?

I always use manual for the exposure and set accordingly after a few test shots.

Back in the early days of the internet (1999) we decided to visit Lindisfarne for the day. I told my folks that we could check online and we were amazed to quickly find out the times. It was all so easy! On heading onto the causeway, my brother remarked 'there're a lot of people leaving' but we thought nothing more of it. Once on the island we did the obligatory shots of the castle and enjoyed every moment as so few people were around. On leaving we discovered the reason for the tranquility - the information on the net was just plain wrong! We made it off just in time.
Need Lightroom V3 Help file

I have never trusted Lightroom to import or move my image files. I drag them from the card into the folders where I want them. Then I go into Lightroom and import the images using "Add". Witgh this selected, Lightroom adds the images to the catalogue and leaves them where they are. I use Macs but it is the same on a PC I believe. :)If you are worried for some reason about LR not importing them, then you can look in the relevant folder on your Mac (where you are expecting them to be) and they will be clearly seen. They are not hidden in some way, unlike the way Photos does it. The only thing you can do wrong when importing them straight from the SD card is to accidentally choose 'Add' from the options. You need to make sure it's on 'Copy' or 'Move.'

May I ask why you don't digitise them? Perhaps you have. It's amazing the quality we got from scanning 1972 Kodacolor negs. There's something special about looking at the negative knowing that all those years ago it was in the camera capturing that momemt.

I like the silver look. Reminds me of my ME-Super! If it had GPS I might be tempted.

Great shots Chris. What setting do you use for the AF? I always use just the centre spot as I never trust the camera to get it right.

Somewhere in the middle maybe? Does the slide exhibit that magenta cast? However I feel this is more neutral (courtesy Photoshop Elements.) This looks spot on to me.

Agree that the 16-85mm is worth getting if you can put some extra dosh in.
Help I was uneducated.

I started out with a Zenith that didn't even have a light meter. Then I got a Cosina CS2. Amazingly I bought a winder for it, but rather sadly, it seemed to kill the shutter. I longed to be able to afford a Pentax and was delighted when, once I had a job, I bought a new ME-Super, which I still have. Those were the days when the K-mount was king.

I'll start saving. I've yet to find a "standard" zoom I'm happy with and the K-3iii deserves something good.I struggled to find a standard zoom that I was totally happy with. Started out with the kit lens on a K20D which was poor. The edge quality was terrible so I got a DA16-45mm. I loved this lens but I found it flared too much in very bright sunshine (maybe the filter was dud!). I then tried the DA18-135mm but could not cope with the CA. It varied so much that I used to have three different LR settings depending on the focal length used. This was before LR had the automatic CA removal feature. Then I got the DA16-85mm. My first copy was DOA. SRS sent me another and it was decentered. I got a third copy and I have been stunned by how good it is. My copy is as sharp as any prime I have used. Edge to edge at all focal lengths. I would not consider another lens now. I recommended it to my brother at the same time I got mine (on SRS sale a few years ago for 349). His died but was fixed under warranty. So all in all, it's a cracker of lens with iffy QC.

To keep file size down, why not rezz it up in Photoshop?
More Planes over Houses

They often fly from Headcorn Aerodrome (a former RAF base). I am on the route from there to Capel Le Ferne which is where the Battle of Britain museum and memorial is. As such we see Spitfires almost every day, often multiple times from Spring to Autumn!

I wouldn't be surprised if, for a lens like this, they produced an initial batch and then stopped making them. The expected sales must surely have been very small.
Sunderland and Weardale

Just spent a few days in Sunderland (Roker) and also had a trip to Weardale. The weather was incredibly good and people (hardy Northern souls) were swimming. The skies were just incredible on some of the days. Note the Sunderland fan! Roker Park boating lake has swans! Above Westgate in Weardale
