Pentax DL190 Battery

Posted 18/12/2024 - 17:04 Link
I've seen brand new Pentax D-L190 batteries advertised on eBay. They are priced at £17.03 plus £3.43 carriage. The description says they are genuine Pentax Batteries however the price seems to good to be true. Has anyone any information about the seller or these batteries. Remember the saying "If it seems to good to be true then it most probably is"

They don't look genuine though.

The feedback seems to suggest that they are genuine pentax batteries 🙂

Some feedback does look convincing but why are they so cheap?

I'm sceptical about the feedback on eBay for some of these mass sellers.

All the genuine D-Li90s that I have owned and seen have a date stamp. None of them had 'Cell made in Japan'. All the genuine ones have aligned texts with a thicker typeface than these 'new' ones.

EDIT: I've cracked it. Look at the battery manufacturer. It says Hoya 'Corportion'.
They're fake. Even if they were new old stock, it's been years since Hoya owned Pentax. Ricoh Imagine own them now.

More proof of them being fake:

The packaging also sucks. It stands out quite strongly since the original 'old style' boxes are beautiful. This one has the wrong colours and again narrower fonts.

I think they may be genuine old stock and I am tempted but I dont think its worth the risk. Even if they are genuine their age is worrying. However all the major UK retailers are showing the old style Hoya logo on the battery online so its very confusing.

Hoya Corporation on the genuine stuff from Park etc. It says Hoya Corportion on the fake ones. It's missing the 'a' from corporation.

There's a space before and after the comma on the genuine batteries, not on the fakes.

Always a difficult choice here. The 'Pentax' ones are just the same as many others but with different branding and an extortionate price. The problem is with 'many others'. If someone is trying to mimic the genuine then I would avoid them because 'many others' sell them under their own names and make no pretense about what they are.... e,g, Energiser or even Battery pack for Pentax. Additionally, no one has mentioned the differences in mAh between these competing items - they differ considerably.

There's no way these are genuine. Avoid.

I've found genuine batteries to last much longer (per charge and also lifespan) than cheap third-party ones. I know the price is extortionate but in the end you get what you pay for. I'd rather buy one extra genuine one than four extra third-party ones which will stop working in a couple of years.

Thanks for all the advice, I am totally convinced these are not genuine and certainly not good value. Must keep saving up for the genuine article.
