Thanks Don, however I want the control when I put the lens on tubes and I'm sure I have been able to do this before, I may be mistaken though.

Surely if the lens is not set to A then I have full control of the size of the aperture via the ring?

When it is off the camera and I turn the aperture ring it closes down fine but as soon as I put it on the camera and twist the aperture opens fully

I want to use my Pentax A in manual aperture mode but when I put it on the camera it straight away opens the aperture fully and I cant close it. The lens is not on "A" setting and Manual Aperture setting is on in the menu. What am I doing wrong?

I have the same thing crop up regularly on my K-7 too although mine are only visible at extreme close up and appear as small round dots surrounded by a halo of white, I'm starting to contemplate sending it to Pentax for a service.
But for now I use these from SRS

Is there a small silver protrusion on the side of the tubes, if so push it downwards towards the camera then twist off the lens.

Good set Mike although the flash glare on some are a little overpowering.
