Cheers Gamka sorry John if copy and paste was a bit difficult for you

And Yes to Gartmore, even 3rd party batteries supposedly of the same make and type can vary because they're probably made in back garden shed type factories in deepest darkest Shenzen and just labled the same.

John the link works if you copy and paste it, I can't seem to make it 'live' on the forum though.

Everything you ever wanted to know about Lithium Ion batteries but were afraid to ask...

The main point of danger with lithium bateries is when charging, they are supposed to have overcharge protection built in to them but while some claim to have they actually don't. I too have never seen or heard of a camera battery blowing up but... A few months ago a friend bought a Chinese no-name head torch (so he could read at night without annoying swimbo) with a built in rechargable lithium battery, the blurb said o/c protection. He hung it on the bed post on charge after use and a couple of hours later it exploded, bits of plastic casing were embedded in the ceiling, wall and bedclothes, the wall was badly burned and he only escaped injury because it was round the far side of the bedpost.
The moral is, if you buy aftermarket batteries buy them from a known source and don't leave them unattended while on charge, at least until you know they are safe.

How can it already be down from a price it was never sold at? I'm debating whether to buy one but £99 is still a lot of money for something like this and I have to convince myself I need the functionality more than the cash. So far cash is winning.

Any significant increase in power needs a corresponding increase in physical battery size. A 40% increase just isn't possible in the same size of casing regardless of price. If you accept that a battery may say one thing but deliver less then at least you're not fooling yourself when you spend money on it.
My own way of thinking is that ok it's only 80% as good as the original but, it's one twelfth of the price so still value for money. As John says above there's a safety issue too but you can keep an eye on the battery at first to make sure it's performing properly.

Re Gartmores suggestion, perhaps shoot RAW+jpg for a while and see how you get on, if you're finding RAW too much hassle or not getting the results you want then at least you know and have not lost anything.

No it's not. RAW is the unprocessed data that an image is made from, the software you choose to use takes that data and adapts it as you tell it to, then you choose to 'save as' the image type that you want to use.
