I was shooting with a cheap Kood uv filter on, it might be some small defects in the glass. IT served it's purpose yesterday, while packing up the wind caught the benbo tripod and blew it over onto the stones, k3, DA*300 and all. Luckily the filter rim and tripod adjustment bolt took the worst of it with only a tiny mark on the lens barrel. Everything seems to be working well but I'm heading out again today to test it properly.

Pretty sure I've got all filters and anti shake switched off.

Not a good shot but an interesting colour scheme.

One and three appeal to me most, the bottom half of the first shot would make a great image by itself.

Welcome I too still have some K mount lenses from my film days, it's one of the things that Pentax got right that keeps most of us hooked.

a further 3-4 hours from Inverness to Thurso...

2 1/2 hours Inverness to Thurso even at a busy time of day. I do that run regularly and often manage it in 2 hrs 15 driving a van at max 50mph. Unless you are including stops for photography

No mention of it on the SRS site that I can find?

Strike that, found it

That's much better I think. The first one is made off balance by the road, despite the skyline being nicely framed.

As for route, straight up the A9 to John O'Groats and then the ferry to South Ronaldsay, it's the shortest ferry route by far. If you fancy a longer ferry trip head west when you get to Wick (7 or 8 miles) for the Gills Bay ferry which takes you round to the top of South Ronaldsay at St. Margrets Hope.

I'm so impressed with this lens, I went out to Fortrose to try and get some Dolphin shots but they weren't playing today at all. Had to make do with this Gull and some Oyster Catchers.
