It may just be a faulty mount. I believe there is some wiring in the mount which may have come loose.

You produce excellent images, on screen and it seems in print media. The K10D has been well received, and is compared to the Nikon D200 class cameras, not the 400D. Nothing more needs to be said, except these days, it is not just the camera, but also the post-processing that has as much influence on results.

That's my experience on both A and M series lenses.

I suspect there are a few A series lenses with botched DIY repairs. I have had one which jammed and would not move off f8.

The only Pentax lens I have had with a sticky diaphragm is a 35mm f2.8, which has some well known issues, but is a nice lens.

Just as an aside to this thread, does anyone think their A lenses will last as long as their M lenses. I am keeping a reasonable set of M lenses just because I don't quite trust the plastic fantastic A lenses, particularly the little metal clip in the aperture ring.

You might find that the K10D is tuned for slightly lower contrast/lower expsoure in the mid tones, to help in post processing, by retining much more detail. The firmware of each camera may also process the same shot differently.

Excellent images - you should be happy with them!

My understandfing is that the DOF of a lens depends on the lens and image magnification.

If you take a photo using a 50mm lens on a 35mm film body, then crop that photo to show the same view as a 50mm lens on a DSLR, and view both images at the same size, they will show the same DoF characteristics, ie the 50mm lens will have apparently less DOF, similar to a 75mm lens on a 35mm film body.

Is this only with manual lenses? The earlier istD/S/L bodies were known for 1/2 - 1 stop underexposure, perhaps to preserve highlight detail.

I am surprised by all the internet chatter on this subject. I have never had any metering issues with M or M42 lenses on an istDS. One thing to make sure of is that you stop down to meter (not sure if the auto ISO feature might also affect stop down metering) - some of the idiots out there (present company excepted) probably forget this and fire away. Unsurprisingly, they get over exposure.
