Hi George,

Love the scene and the diagonals work well, agree with the other on the tree crop, it does detract slightly from the main subject

Thanks for the comments everyone, even Jasper who thinks I live next to the lake I think - 5.30 start, 1hr 20minutes drive, 40minute walk in the dark

Another thread is imminent, late night processing last night too

This is the first of many shots from this morning in Snowdonia, really breathtaking scenery today.

I arrived at Llyn Llydaw about 20 minutes before sunrise to find most of the lake slightly windswept but managed to find this spot which was partly frozen. The ice limited my choices on composition so I set up the tripod here and then waited for the sunrise - it was certainly worth the wait. Amazing too how the sunlight bouncing off Snowdon created such a powerful reflection, first time I've known reflections to be so colourful. The breeze went completely soon afterwards so it turned out to be a great morning.

They'll be a few more to follow over the next day or two once I've converted all the raw files

Nice set, I like the 3rd one most for the composition and movement in the sea. Just a thought but it might be a good idea to avoid F22 if possible as diffraction can be a problem

I'd recommend the following books...

Bryan Peterson - Understanding exposure
Michael Freeman - The Photographer's eye

Specifically for landscape photography:

The landscape photography workshop - Ross Hoddinott, Mark Bauer

Learning the theory is obviously important but getting out and practising is even moreso, be patient & persistent too as it won't happen overnight

Have fun!!

I do like the bleakness of this shot, only just caught the mist as I spotted it on the way down from my snowdon sunrise shoot and it was lifting pretty quickly as I drove down the road to the viewpoint - had to quickly set the tripod up on the roadside and only managed 2 shots before the mist had disappeared completely.

Framing wise, the original was slightly wider and it definitely had too much foreground in the L/H corner - this is a cropped version and probably the best compromise

Really like the last one, bit of a Charlie Waite going on there - maybe try cropping out the sky??

Thanks for the comments, Simon.
I am a tad confused though...There is no sky in the last one
yes now I've realised - it's how I was viewing it in another window on my PC

This shot was taken on the same morning as the Snowdon sunrise photos in my last thread - you certainly wouldn't think it though, those sunrise colours are definitely a bit deceiving!!
