Just had some good news..my winning entry into the Trinity House 2010 Calendar Competition has been chosen as "Best overall winning entry", it's on the December 2010 calendar page as well as the front cover, to make it even better I get a free 3 night stay in a Trinity House property. Really pleased with the news as it's one of the first competitions I've entered. Here's the winning shot...

With SD cards so cheap now it's certainly possible to use them as backup - I play double safe & carry several 4GB cards which I backup to the Netbook and then leave the images on the SD card too, only deleting them once they're on my PC

Would putting 'Newark-on-Trent' be too poncy?
I've visited Newark on Trent many times to see relatives...I'm pretty certain it won't be seen as "poncy"

I've tried several different solutions over the past year or two....

Portable DVD burner, Portable storage device and now a Lenovo Netbook

For me the Netbook is by far the best solution, not only does it provide a large amount of backup capacity, it also runs Photoshop and with a mobile broadband USB stick allows access to email and the WWW whilst away, great for researching tourist attractions/places to visit or anything else you might want info on.

The samsung didn`t feel at all right to hold, particularly the right hand grip.
I've been looking at the GX20 instead of the K20 on price. I thought both bodies were the same. From what Cedric says is this a wrong assumption?
The bodies are slightly different, mainly around the grip - Cedric prefers the Pentax but personally I much preferred the Samsung so it's useful to try them both if you get the chance - if not this is a minor thing and isn't a deal breaker anyway

With the menu systems you'll get used to either one very quickly

I agree if you're using a good commercial printer of have a decent printer then you'll get more accurate colour reproduction....the colour profiles I used in my Photoshop workflow WERE the specialised Epson ones - surely that's the point
Not entirely. Some Epson photo printers have a composite profile. You can let Photoshop manage the profile for printers that have separate ICC/ICM profiles for each paper/setting combination (so there's a whole bunch of profiles, often with slightly cryptic names). However, where there is a single profile you have to let the Epson driver handle colour because only the driver can access the embedded combinations for each paper type etc (Or you go through the hassle of doing your own profiles for each setting!)
Does that make better sense??

Matt
Fair enough Matt, I see your point...I was thinking more about the OPs printer though, the px700w - this has dedicated ICC profiles so probably the best approach would be to set-up the profiles through Photoshop and turn off printer management - I don't think this model would benefit from Argb. I own a Canon all-in-one (MP540)and initially tried Argb but wasn't happy with the results, a switch to Srgb definitely improved print quality.

Unfortunately colour management isn't the simplest thing to understand/set-up and the virtues of Srgb vs Argb etc seem to be under constant debate. Argb it seems has advantages for high-end/pro printing but if not used correctly can have obviously negative effects on prints - it just seems to me for "normal" use it's simpler & safer to go with Srgb

Once you have correctly set the focal length for a manual focus lens (50mm in the case of a 50mm lens), and if it is the only MF lens you have, you need do nothing more than press the shutter button to turn off the 'Select focal length' menu because the camera will 'remember' your last setting and use it ever time until you change it.
Always learning something new here. I was not aware of that Peter.

Thanks.
Me either...very useful

thanks

Thank you all. I've turned the SR off & as Joe S said it no longer asks for the FL. I'll give it a go as soon as I get a chance. Looks like fun....

Hi Caz,

I've just bought the same lens for my K20D..very good it is too.

BTW - generally you're best keeping the SR turned ON
