K20 D or GX20

Not enough difference to justify any significant price difference, mainly ergonomics, menu system and Samsung using only .DNG (Pentax have their own raw format aswell)
I've just upgrading to the K20D from a GX10 - the K20D is excellent but I actually prefer the ergonomics and menu system of the GX10, the K20D doesn't feel quite so comfortable as the GX10 did - I also still use the .DNG format

Thanks Simon, I like the K10 D but the fine tuning for up to 20 lenses might just sway it for me. Will keep the K10 D as a second body. Too good to part company with for part exchange. The bottom has fallen out of the second hand market for the K10. SRS reckon they are tripping over used ones.

Just purchased the K20D from SRS before the price shot up, but there is still some out there to be found at £530ish.

Resolved the issue today, held both the K20 and the GX20. no contest really. The samsung didn`t feel at all right to hold, particularly the right hand grip. Plus the K20 is a dead ringer of the K10 and that is a camera body that fits me well. Looking forward to trying out my new K20 very soon.

Recived my GX 20 this morning with 18/55 kit lens from Dixons airport store at a price of £287 including postage. I think there are one or two left at Newcastle.

I've been looking at the GX20 instead of the K20 on price. I thought both bodies were the same. From what Cedric says is this a wrong assumption?

The bodies are the same, but the menus are slightly different in design, the properties of the JPEG output may differ slightly and the body shape is slightly different.
Under the skin they are 99% the same thing.

With the menu systems you'll get used to either one very quickly

The K20 is identical with the K10 with the exception of the external flash socket. Same switches and layout. The Samsung is totally different with a smaller screen as well. Maybe I`ve become used to the K10 which I find such a good ergonomic design. The samsung is obviously a good piece of kit but I prefer the Pentax.

This is simply incorrect. Cedric must have been looking at the wrong camera. It is as John and Simon say.The Samsung is totally different with a smaller screen as well.

It would seem that Pentax themselves regard the GXs as a Pentax.
In the not so great days of the British car industry, this was known as badge engineering.

I had a GX20 in one hand and the K20 was on the counter. The bodies are shall we say, chalk and cheese. The Samsung has different switchgear whearas the K20 is identical to the K10. Even the screen on the Samsung is a different shape, rounded moulding black frame where the Pentax is rectangular. The grip for the right hand on the Samsung has a deep "undercut" for the finger tips, providing your fingers are small enough. Have Samsung undergone a styling makover?

it does look like the buttons at least are a different design, although I assumed the body was otherwise identical to the K20 in size and shape

I would keep the K10D, as the output at anything below 800 iso is very good. My philosophy is that selling digital camera's in their 2nd generation is akin to throwing them in the waste paper basket. Better to keep it or give it to someone as a gift.Apart from the different name are there any worthwile differences between the Pentax and Samsung bodies? Keep it as a back up and get the K20D.
